FREMONT (CBS SF) — Fremont police hope surveillance video will help them find three men suspected of vandalizing a dam, wasted millions of gallons of water in the process.

The newly-released surveillance footage shows the men entering a restricted area of Alameda Creek and intentionally damaging an inflatable dam.

The dam is used in the Alameda County Water District’s operations to recharge the Niles Cone Groundwater Basin, one of the district’s main water supplies.

The damage sent an estimated 50 million gallons of water — enough to supply nearly 500 homes for one year — rushing down the creek. The dam will cost $3 million to replace.

So this guy likes wasting water in a place that needs it. We should go a King Joffrey route, waste some water on him, and see that he gets his fill: LINK

Baton Rouge used one of these to protect it during the last Mississippi River flood.

>100,000 gallons per year per house?

At least 8,333 gallons per month per house?

Almost 300 gallons per day per house?

I'm not buying their estimates here. That's a whole bunch of water usage for every house.

I checked my bill for last month, I used just over 1,600 gallons in May.

EDIT:

"The average American family of four uses 400 gallons of water per day."*
400 x 30 = 12,000 per month x 12 months = 144,000 gallons per year.

Who knew?
