I guess he'd be a lifer like the rest of them if he got confirmed.

Don't you just know the phone traffic in DC has spiked in a major way this afternoon.

No way can he get someone through in time.

Regardless, though, how dumb is it that a president gets to make such a monumental decision as Supreme Court appointments for life?

Gettin' good-ole-boyism machine churning.

You may be onto something with the Obama nomination. You know they won't appoint one until the time he steps down anyway!

How many lame-duck Presidents have actually gotten a nominee to the SCOTUS? My guess is very, very few.

Although there are no grade transcripts of record and such - doesn't Obama claim to be a Constitutional scholar?

No way they get a confirmation in. Not gonna happen, unless the GOP is in on the fix.

First thing I always think when people of such strong leanings one way or the other pass away is:

"Well, I guess right about now he's finding out how right or how wrong he was."

As terrible as McConnell has been, at least he is saying that they are going to ride out any nomination until the next president. Hopefully, it's not Hillary.

125 days is longest previous delay for a SCOTUS nominee, so if they stall it until next year it will be a huge political issue, like a government shutdown on steroids.

Rehnquist died in office on September 5, 2005. Roberts (his replacement) assumed office on September 29th. How the hell did that happen so fast?

ETA: Kept reading wiki... Didn't realize he was already in the middle of his confirmation to replace O'Connor when Rehnquist died.
