Wife’s Infiniti did the same thing. Google it, it’s very common and companies don’t want to recall every car with sunroofs. Dealer insisted it had to be a rock even after I showed him countless stories of it happening to tons of cars. Exploded most of the center and Was pealed upwards and landed on the roof and shattered while driving.

I think Audi had a recall for this. Several other brands refuse to say it happens and blame it on rocks to avoid recalls and scare people away from buying cars with sunroofs

The exact thing happened with my parents cx9 a few years back while driving down the interstate. It sounded like a gun was shot in the car

imbalance in the internal stress, all sunroofs will be tempered glass so it is one big sheet of opposing stresses.

Wtf you talking about. Tempered and heat strengthened glass are strong as shite. Thermal expansion didn't do that.
That being said. The glass is extremely thin and got damaged at some point. After being damaged it probably cooled down and tensile stress was applied

Stray bullet
Happened to my father and I when I was young, we were stopped at a stop sign near the Quarter when we heard a noise and something hit the roof. Sure enough a spent 9mm bullet had dented his roof and was just sitting there on the roof of the car. It came down almost vertical.
