Summary of the recent scandals in the Oakland Police Department

Original Thread: Oakland PD Underage Sex Scandal

Just thought I'd run down the events of the Oakland PD after a crazy week largely ignored by the national media. I'll start at more or less the beginning, repeating some of the events in the first thread.

A cop killed his wife and covered it up with the help of some of his cop buddies. The murder is ruled a suicide. Later, the same cop commits suicide himself, leaving behind a suicide note that reveals he and some of his fellow officers had been raping an alleged child trafficking victim. An investigation ensues and corroborates the officers suicide note.

After the trafficking victim turns 18, more cops start paying her for sex. This happens more than once in the Oakland police department parking lot. The investigation further uncovers that the Police Chief's wife knew early on about officers paying for sex with the child trafficking victim. The Oakland Police Chief steps down due to this and possibly additional reasons. His wife tweets that "it's bullshite" that he had to step down. Oakland's mayor says he stepped down for "personal reasons".

New Police Chief is sworn in. More and more journalists start jumping on the story. Oakland's mayor, doubles down, claims the journalists are lying about everything. The new Police Chief may have payed for sex with the same girl as the rest of the department. He steps down after a few days.

New Police Chief is sworn in. The mayor lauds him. For unknown reasons he steps down after 2 days.

Meanwhile another scandal breaks out. Racist texts between police officers were found referencing the KKK and using the n-word. The Mayor decides that there just won't be a new Police Chief. This is where we stand now.

So one murder, a cover up, one suicide, child rape, prostitution in the Police Department parking lot, racist texts, and 3 police chiefs in one week. The mayor asks the public to trust the process.

Apparently other local department officers were having paying the same girl for sex.

Finally, it was revealed yesterday that there seems to be yet another scandal. A veteran homicide detective, who was married, had his side piece right up his homicide reports and do administrative paper work. Then she found out he is married.

The mayor is now saying the the department is 'toxic'.
