Nice subtle brag. By identifying your age, you're also already setting yourself up to appear biased.

I can only speak for myself here and the experiences I've had with the folks I work with and have worked with since I began my professional career.

Ah, so what you mean is you have anecdotal information. Funny enough, it's the knowledge and judgement to understand concepts like the differences between small samples and the findings of large-scale studies that U.S. Millennials are being condemned for.

quote:

I've found that, generally speaking, the smartest, hungriest, best problem solvers I've come across in my field come from my generation and the generation ahead of mine (Generation X, I guess). They are much more tech savvy, more outgoing and hungrier.

Get the frick out. Really, your younger workers are more tech saavy than your older workers? Alert the media dude. That's unbelievable. They're hungrier too? Damn, I would hope a 25 year old just starting his career is hungrier than a 65 year old who knows he's already reached his peak.

Neither of those things is the point of the study.

quote:

frick your study.

Yeah, frick the OECD's study. They're just out to bash American Millennials like the old farts on the OT.

Problem is that they have no hands on experience. Blame it on my generation for doing/giving them everything they wanted. And yes, I'm guilty.

All thru the south, companies are begging for young craft people. There is a very big shortage of them. Young people just don't want to work and get there hands dirty anymore. So, they go to school for a extra 4-5 years. Out of that group, only about 25% will make big bucks. The rest will struggle thru life. At the same time, young people that went into a trade out of high school, 3-4 years later are making 75K a year.

Problem is every kid thinks they are entitled to go to college and think they need college to be successful.

and no one wants to learn a skill or trade

This is completely false, I would love for you to link where you got this erroneous information.

Meh, that's not really the point of it either. I would not expect anyone, of any age, who is not a welder by trade to know how to weld.

See, that is were you are wrong. Us Baby boomers will try first before calling in help.

This is a very true statement. Good craftsmen are hard to find these days.

It's always funny to me when I see an engineer right out of school trying to critique the work of a craftsman with 20 years experience. You ever seen a crusty old boilermaker/electrician/etc rip a 25 your old kid to shreds with his knowledge of his craft? Then to put the icing on the cake the old craftsman lets the young engineer know that he makes more money than he does.

That's probably just cause LSU sucks

- also as a millennial who posses problem solving and other high quality skillz, it is nice to have the deck stacked in my favor.

frick, don't be so demanding. it's not that bad for just having woken up and on an iPhone.

- also having skillz is much more badass and useful than having skills. We have fired a few people with skills the last few years but everyone with skillz remains

Generation X has nothing going for it.

Here's a tip, Use periods, skilz boy.

You've got an iPhone with the collected knowledge of the universe at your fingertips. We had out-of-date encyclopedias. Yet somehow we learned things, and you kids seem to know very little.

Also, I'll add a note to al you special millennials. "At least we can use an iPhone and Craigslist" is not a compelling response to a detailed, scientific study showing you suck.

The judgment is in the study. It affirms my own observations.

I've heard your defenses. "The boomers screwed us." "We're still young." "The financial crisis forced me to work at Starbucks."

Maybe it isn't your fault. But you are behind. Stop bitching and get cracking.
