This seems to be a common occurence at the convenience stores around my house, especially the Walmart gas station. This would be unheard of in days past.

Those days are long gone. Store hours are dictated by how the staff feels that day.

Stores and restaurants also close earlier than scheduled a lot now. It’s frustrating.

Yeah it's frustrating. It is a catch-22 for restaurants, it's hard to hire currently but I'm not going to spend higher amounts for a shitty experience when I can cook well enough on my own.

Covid absolutely broke the entire system

It was rare that this sort of thing would happen anywhere and now it’s routine

Brick and mortar economy is dying a slow death outside the big box world of Costco, Sam’s, WalMart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc… Got gas at Sam’s yesterday for 2.98, at Shell across street it was 3.39.

I just don’t see mom & pop coming back with the Amazon & other Internet retailers being able to crush margins. This includes convenience stores. Sure truck stops and Bucees type outfits will continue to thrive, but they are big box convenience stores by comparison. Little guy can’t compete.

And I might add closing 10 minutes early and hustling their customers out quickly

Just what they want to see happen. It's easier to deal with a couple of CEOs than with millions of hard working, risk taking small business owners

I’ve noticed it a lot more too. Went to go pick up some supplies Saturday, place opens at 10, I’m there at 11 and it’s locked up. 10 is already late.

We’ve been hearing this for well over a decade now and yet every holiday season malls, outlet stores, etc are jammed packed with customers.

The store I went to had this hosing I needed to replace. They were closed, I got mad and just ordered it on Amazon.

Just another example of how the US is becoming more and more like a 3rd world country.

I placed an order for pickup at Insomnia Cookies and scheduled pickup time during lunch and I show up to pick up order after getting email/text saying order was ready and the store was locked and no one was there.

Ended up leaving and calling later that afternoon, only good thing is I got free cookies out of the deal
