When Stephen A. Smith watched the tribute put on by the Dallas Mavericks for recently retired quarterback Tony Romo on Tuesday night, the co-host of ESPN's First Take saw a racial discrepancy.

The Mavericks allowed Romo to suit up for the team. He participated in a morning shoot-around, warmed up with the team at the American Airlines Center and sat on the bench during the Mavericks' matchup with the Denver Nuggets.

Smith said on his show that he has never seen a black athlete treated in such a way, sparking an intense debate with ESPN's Will Cain.

quote:

Cain contended that the Mavericks' decision to honor Romo had everything to do with his relationship with the city and nothing to do with the color of his skin. Smith was having none of that argument.

At one point early in the argument, ESPN's Max Kellerman chimed in and pointed out that not only has he never seen a black athlete treated like Romo — he has never seen an athlete of any race treated like Romo, considering his lack of playoff success.

quote:

While most of the exchange focused on Smith and Cain, Kellerman's point may be the most valid. Making an NFL quarterback with two career postseason wins an NBA player for a day is wholly unique to Romo and the City of Dallas.

What a fricking crock of shite.

frick Stephen A. Smith, he's a good reason people hate ESPN nowadays.

Remember when DDP wrestled with Karl Malone and Dennis Rodman?

Remember when Jordan played Baseball?

Steven A is trying to stay relevant. No one gives a shite what that race baiting talking head thinks.

That fact he is crying about a retired QB getting treated well by the city he played in for 12-14 years is laughable.

Pssst - these kind of things are scripted. Stephen A. is the fall guy but he's just regurgitating whatever dumb shite they come up with in the production meetings.

I can't stand the sour look his face is always showing. How can someone always look so disgruntled.

Jordan would have never played baseball at the level he did if not for his successful career in basketball.

No they're not. They don't need to be.

ESPN went and found someone as retarded and racist and Stephen A Smith and just started to let him rant about nothing.

It's easier than hiring a writer.

Romo was great to the city of Dallas and Dallas was good for him. I didn't expect the son of a bitch to become the face of the franchise in 2006 but here we are in 2017 and he's still the face. Sucks he couldn't ever get over the hump but I see a big career in broadcasting ahead of him.

stephen a smith is a race bating TPOS and it's not even debatable.

My opinion of that trash is just like that of the other race baiters, the naacp, blm, and the liberals. They're only relevant because we unfortunately let them be. They all need to remember who signs their paychecks.

Typical of those kinds.

Romo is just a good dude

i bet Stephen A would never do this

quote:

RVING, Texas -- Tony Romo: Pro Bowler, playboy quarterback and, apparently, a Good Samaritan handy with an air compressor. A couple says Romo helped them patch a flat tire on the side of a busy street last weekend after the Dallas Cowboys star returned home from a season-opening win at Cleveland. Bill and Sharon White told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that at least 100 drivers ignored their broken-down Mercury before someone stopped late Sunday. Sharon White said a well-dressed man "with something strange on his chin" walked up and offered a hand. Romo needed 13 stitches after his chin was split open in the 28-10 win over the Browns. He bent down and helped the Whites get their faulty air compressor to fill up the tire.

Same end result I guess. But do you think it was coincidence that Smith and Bayless had complete opposite views on the day's topic literally every single time?
