Planning on riding the St. Tammany Trace on saturday. Just my wife and I and another couple. Not looking for a hard ride, but an easy ride with some beer stops. Who has done it? What advice would you give?

You do know that it's a level, paved road, right?

Depends how far y'all want to ride. Mandeville Trailhead to Abita (stop and drink) and back is approx 8.2 miles each way. Then you can drink and eat at Old Rail (Mandeville Trailhead) when you get back. Alternatively, start at one or the other and just ride as far as you want and turn around and come back.

I ride from Slidell to Mandeville a couple times a month. The Old Rail is a bar/brewpub along the trace in Mandeville. Of course the Abita Brewpub is in Abita. I don't know of any toward Slidell/Lacombe.

I walked the entire trace and nearly back on a hot summer day. I lost 3 toenails in the process. Went about 22 miles.

Never ridden it but i've run stretches of it many times. It's just a flat path.

I did a ride from some bike rental place to the Abita Brewpub...then rode on and did the Abita Brewery tour.

The ride back felt much longer after a few (too many) pints at the brewery

Park at the old train depot a few blocks from the lake. Easy ride to many beer/food stops.

It's easy, and you can pop out and go to the Abita brewery.

Start in Covington and ride to Mandeville thru Abita. As a native Slidellian, there isn't shite east of Mandeville on the trace.

I do it 3 days a week. I try to get 50 miles in a week. Abita is the better side if you're wanting to drink. A nice day is riding around old Mandeville/Lakefront, get on the trace and ride to Fountaineblue state park.

You don't need advice. You picked a very easy trail to ride with breweries literally on the trail. Just enjoy it.

Ridden the trace numerous times. It's about 46 miles round trip from Covington to Slidell and back. There are stops every 5 to 7 miles( Downtown Covington, Abita, the Caboose by I12, mandeville, lacombe, and Slidell.) Plenty of shade. You literally pass the Abita Brew Pub. It's a great ride.

I was thinking of starting a second career as a highwayman on the trace. You nd your friends sound like a good target. Thanks for the heads up!

Start at Koop drive, ride to Mandeville, stop by Old Rail, keep riding to Jackson Street, take Jackson to the lake front, down the lake front crush a heater and bud heavy at Donz, over to Barley Oak for a couple of crafts then back up Lafitte to the trace.

eta: or skip Koop and start at the Mandeville Trailhead. Then you don't have as far to ride back to home base, but less trace.
