St Tammany Panhandlers

The panhandling in St Tammany Parish is getting out of control. A Facebook page called St Tammany Scammer Alert Page has been created recently and really is heating up.
St Tammany has some folks out scamming people for money by simply asking for it on the street corners. One particular woman is out every day while the man that brings her out to beg for money sits in his vehicle and watches her. They have become the poster child of the page and the constant subject.
The FB group is all in an outrage. Some good reading for sure. I'm not a fan of the street begging by any means, but some of these people take butt hurt to a whole new level
How bad are the beggers in your area? I only been hit up by the typical crack head at the gas station a few times.

they are the stars of the page. They do this in Covington, Slidell, and on the Westbank

people are going out on the streets calling out the scammers. Taking pictures and video of each other. Name calling. Police sometimes are involved. It's the group vs the scammers. A constant fight.

Downtown Houston is teeming with them. Out of control.
Even out here in Katy there's a group that's always on Mason Rd. sometimes they literally are standing in front of a business with a help wanted sign.

I live in New Orleans, so there's no comparison. Grew up on the Northshore, so that pisses me off. Cops used to actively arrest and move bums. I guess they stopped that for some reason, but that is a huge stain on the area.
I go to Mandeville every other day, and haven't seen any at all. I work up 59, so I'm on E Causeway, 22, 190, and places in between all of the time. Are they all up in Covington or in the dirty dell?
I went to Houston a couple of months ago, and that was insane. There are probably 10-15 on every block all day long. I went to Midtown, and they were just as bad. They are pushy as frick too (unlike NO bums). Only after I came back home, did I find out that the regular people walk around underground

Comparatively, the NorthShore panhandlers aren't nearly as bad as the more populated areas such as NOLA and Houston, but it's very prevalent at high traffic intersections here.
In Slidell at the Gause Blvd exit and at the east-side service road traffic light off that exit. Also at the Hwy 190 and NorthShore Blvd intersection by the mall and a few blocks up NorthShore Blvd at the light where Walmart and home depot are.
One guy sometimes stakes out the Hwy 59 exit off I-12 but the area they most frequently hit in the Mandeville/Covington area is the traffic lights on 190 in Covington at Walmart and at the Rouses/Home Depot/Goodwill intersections.
The woman and her "pimp" you're referring to are the most prevalent. She's out there virtually every day and rotates between all the spots I mentioned above and recently was seen on the westbank. This woman was arrested by Slidell Police in 2013 and is the reason the ACLU filed a suit against the city and Parish for their unconstitutional ordinances against panhandling, citing it's a violation of 1st amendment rights. So they've basically been left alone for 2+ years now and people are tired of seeing them and seeing unknowing people give them hard earned money while these scammers mooch off society while not contributing to anything.

And as for what a few of you have said, the intent of the group is to try to spread the word to as many people as possible so that the cash flow into the panhandlers' pockets can be stopped and they will move on.
The popular man and woman most talked about are originally from Missouri. Makes you wonder why they moved? (I actually have some inside scoop as to one possible reason) but it's possible people there got fed up with them and drove them out by stopping the cash flow.
Technically they are protected by 1st amendment rights, however many cities around the country have instituted ordinances and city codes that require panhandling permits, minimum safety buffer zones between them and intersections, prohibited intersections and several other things that make panhandling not worth it and they move on.
That's what people in the group are wanting to see happen on the NorthShore.
