Why the hell are the houses there so expensive? It's got to be one of the most overpriced neighborhoods in the country.

It's the newest hipster spot, they have been priced out of the other side of St Claude now

The area looks so rundown though. It makes Central City look nice.

I always laugh at this. Black "leaders" call gentrification racist, but it doesn't happen without a willing seller.

The new orleans housing market is a bubble I will never quite understand.

If the value of the neighborhood skyrockets, property taxes can go up fast as well. This is where you see people getting "priced out" of their neighborhood and they go kicking and screaming.

I'm fairly liberal (at least for this place ) and consider gentrification to be 100% positive.

It seems like sellers get together and decide to sell their houses for 3x what they're actually worth, artificially creating demand

Seriously, when does it stop? In some odd way Nola real estate doesn't take a downturn. Look at the economic data, where are the jobs to sustain the prices? Who are buying these homes??

Pretty much this and old money. The private sector alone is simply not healthy enough to sustain the prices on real estate in Orleans Parish.

Mostly out of towners buying up properties to rent or airbnb. Nola is a huge bubble ready to go. The amount of apartments going up in the cbd is unreal.

C'mon man, no way hipsters and trust fund baby's are sustaining this, and if so, it ain't gonna keep at this pace. There's not that much money in NOLA.
