Looks like that sickout worked.

LINK

quote:

After weeks of tension with the school district's bus drivers, the St. Tammany Parish School Board on Monday night agreed to pay increases for the drivers that are four times the amount the school district initially offered.

quote:

Bus drivers will get a total of $4,100 -- $400 per month for four months and a $2,500 emergency stipend for "operational pay." The proposal also calls for drivers who covered routes for other drivers to get $20 for driving a extra morning route and $20 for an extra afternoon route not to exceed $40 per day. That pay will be retroactive to Aug. 6, 2021.

It will cost the district $2.16 million.

Also looks like another sick out was coming.

quote:

Union officials met Jabbia twice after the sickout to discuss pay increases. Fears that a second sickout was in the offing sparked the decision to hold the School Board meeting.

Shouldn't have waited 40 years to give them a raise.

The state is still waiting 40 yeas to give them a raise. Locals basically kicking in where state hasn't.

Now maybe that's enough pay for them to use turn signals and not pull out in front of moving traffic just to go two blocks and turn onto another side street.

Not sure why you got downvoted. You are 100% correct, teh STSB sat on their hands for decades while cost were increasing dramatically.

You are not wrong, but the problem is we send tons of tax money to the state. We need to get something out of that.

To clarify, I'm not sure this is for their salary. This is for the operational portion of their pay allocated to operating the bus itself. That was the portion that had not seen an increase since the 80s.

Most of them are owner operators. They get a chunk of money and pay expenses. This money ultimately hits their bottom line.

Or maybe you could just slow down and let them out. They are trying to stay on schedule like everyone else. Some are doing double routes.
