I did this
It’s been years
Hasn’t happened again so…

Nice, thanks.

A few months ago I heard squirrels freaking out, under my vehicle,
I looked out and there was a giant hawk sitting on lamp post.
I went out and drove off, hopefully the hawk took care of a few of them.

I got a cat. Squirrels are one of his favorite meals.

Um, not file a fraudulent comp claim for starters. Squirrels chewing through wires is not covered under any first party policies. Plus it's $2500. Who the hell would even think to file a 1st party insurance claim for only $2500 engine wire work minus your deductible. You probably still don't get it, but now I have a better lens to view you in.

Trap. Then kill with a .22 and/or cats.

A few years ago, I spent well over $5k in the span of a handful of months due to squirrels chewing up vehicles. 3/4 ton Chevrolet sensor twice, got into my Tundra ac and nestedhad to have the dash pulled and chewed up heat shielding and tried to nest under the air filter in my 05 Z71.

I went straight murderous. My wife was spraying and praying with a 12 gauge, me with a 22 taking pot shots, traps and 2 cats that are indoor/outdoor.

I hardly have any squirrels that leave my woods now. I must have killed over 50 in about a year.

I’ve had luck with tucking these into little nooks so they’re secure and not easily dislodged risking accidentally poisoning a pet.

Pellet gun. I use a Benjamin Pump. Gun is 52 years old and still shoots like new. 12 pumps is like a .22 rifle power. Might not make them anymore. I live in a subdivision.

My neighbor was telling me they had this problem and they leave a bag of mothballs underneath their car.

I was thinking about strangling one out with the chewed wires to send a message.

its not squirrels, its mice, all the mess from the squirrels will attract the mice

mice love to chew wires, and they often like to crawl through the fresh air ducts and move into your dash fan motor housing.

if you can get some aggressive semi feral cats, they will kill all of the above pests

also, a good pellet gun with scope, will greatly reduce the squirrel populations and no one outside of 15 ft from you can hear it

Let me guess, you get your insurance advice from the hunting camp or the Turner guys at the smoke shack at work?

It happened to my mom one time. Squirrels chewed up a bunch of car wires. We have a carport not a garage and we had to quit parking in the carport (because of the squirrels) and that actually helped.

It also seemed like when we quit putting out bird seed in several areas of the yard that we started seeing less squirrels. They love bird seed.

Buy an older car with wire looms that use petroleum based insulation. Honda went to plant based and many other companies followed.

Educate me. How should I word it if I file a claim ? In the shop now, not sure of the total $$. If it's frigging $2500 I will be filing a claim for sure. Kind of assume they will just jack up my rates if I file a claim.

Just call them and tell them - it’s a covered loss. They will want to inspect though.

The biggest thing they are looking for is actual signs of rodent damage. And they are looking to make sure that it hasn’t happened over a long period of time (like you abandoned a broken done car and are now trying to get it fixed). One of the things that can get it denied is if it isn’t sudden and accidental. If they find a full nest in there, it’s more likely to get denied.

Welp, this is completely wrong.

People who have comprehensive coverage. It’s literally what it’s there for. Plus it’s a comp claim (same as windshield replacement). Why wouldn’t you file it?

Edit: And just so you don’t come back with a dumbass retort, here is a link to Allstate saying that it’s covered under comp Allstate.

I have a buddy who lives on a big piece of land in Central. His house has a carport not a garage. Mice chewed the shite out the wiring in his Tundra and his wife's 4 Runner.

TWICE.

It turns out the insulation on the wires is made with vegetable oil.

He has 7 or 8 dogs so he didn't want to use poison. He bought some sonic gadgets to repel them and it seems to be working.

Very good idea

some of the sonic deterrents work, but also so do dryer rolls, and it prob, not squirrels but mice, or both
