ETA: From your post history looks like your fiance wants to take a 6 month assignment out of the country? Seems like an actually decent reason to take a break to me.

Disagree. Most often when someone wants a break they really are unhappy with the relationship and just aren't sure of themselves enough to call it off entirely.

The wife and I did when we had been dating for about a year or 2.
When didn't call it a break, we broke up. Dated other folks, then ended up back together about 6 months or so later.
We hung out and hooked up the whole 6 months though. That was 6 or 7 years ago. Happily married for 3 years now.

Breaks are for insecure people who are looking for something better but don't want to chance losing what they already have. In other words, she is putting you on the back-burner while she finds out how some other guy's junk feels in her.

If the women calls for the break she has already cut a pony from the herd that she is ready to ride. She may not have ridden him yet but she is getting the saddle greased up and ready.
