Spinoff- Pentecostal believers

I was reading the speaking in tongues thread and someone mentioned Pentecostal. I hadn't heard that since I lived in Lake Charles.
Brought back all these memories of growing up in school and all the Pentecostal kids would turn their desks when the teacher would show videos. I also remember them always looking homely or Amish.
That was 30 years ago. Is it still like that in southern Louisiana or everywhere Pentecostal people practice?
Just seems so odd. What are the theories behind these practices?

all I know is that they are weird folks. The Pentecostal women around here where long blue jean skirts all the time, for some reason.

wait, what?
I never saw any of this growing up with plenty of Pentecostals
and my wife, who grew up Pentecostal, was allowed to watch videos
she did have hair down to her knees at one point though and totally rocked those long blue jean skirts when she was young

the vast majority aren't nearly that bad. the ones raised in the church are more hardcore but many of the churches welcome all people, so the morning service has lots of ladies with cut hair and makeup and all that
this is Lake Charles area reference

its the same elsewhere
I'd say only about 25% of the Pentecostals are traditionalists these days from my experience

I just moved to LC at the beginning of the year. Being from BR I had no dealings with Pentecostal people ever. I'll just leave it at this..they are definitely a different folk and sometimes make me uncomfortable around them for the simple fact that I can't be myself...that being said, they aren't bad people at all and probably are going to heaven before me

My Grandfather always warned us to be careful when dating their women.
His quote, "Nothing gets knocked up quicker than Pentecostal pussy."

A Pentecostal preacher's kid was in my class for a while. I used to go over to his house some.
The only odd thing was they did not have a TV. The kid had a hard time bullshitting at recess because we all talked about TV shows and sports. He was a book reading mofo though.

I had some family who were Pentecost and they moved around from church to church till they found one that was relaxed. Apparently in Tullos you were going to hell for having a t.v. whereas in Urania there were remotes in heaven. I dont get the thought of the preacher making up the rules.
and the women had their men wrapped around their fingers... had to be something magical

from the responses it sounds like it might be localized to the LC region as far as the extreme practices. could just be one huge church
when I say a lot I meant like 4-5 kids which out of 20-25 is a lot.
they would turn their desks and face the wall during reading rainbow and shite.

I grew up in a traditional Pentecostal church in Louisiana. My mom still only wears skirts. The Pentecostal "standards" (as they are referred to by churchgoers) include women wearing only skirts, women not cutting their hair, abstaining from "mixed bathing" i.e. men and women swimming together, no TVs in the home - though this has been relaxed recently, etc.
The largest organization of traditionalist Pentecostals is probably the United Pentecostal Church International. They recently had a large split when the organization agreed to allow advertising church services on television but it's still the largest. I will post more if there is anything in particular you want to know.

I had a supervisor once that is a Pentecostal from the LP. He always used to poke small jokes about Catholics and me going to catholic schools.
I never said anything back b/c I could land a Pentecostal joke on him that could shake up his whole religious belief. And on top of that we (Catholics) outnumber them(Pentecostals) by a large shot.

I saw a Pentecostal woman in WalMart the other day and she had an amazing bod.

Yeah they are weird. I observe the women wearing frumpy as frick ankle length skirts and I imagine they have hairy stinky pussies.
