Spinoff; Bizarre airport behavior

In the last 11 days I have boarded ten flights in six airports in four different countries and when the flight starts boarding people act like they are escaping the zombie apocalypse trying to be the first to board the plane. It's frikking assigned seating what is the rush? Didn't matter what airport it it always happens. Why rush to sit in a tube for half an hour when you can hang back in more comfortable surroundings and board 15 minutes before the flight.

How exactly is everyday behavior everywhere bizarre
People are fighting for the overhead bins

so they don't have to check their carry on if the flight is too full?

Not really, the Chinese are the worst, a group of 15 of them and one would run up and cut in line and then bring all 15 of their friends to join them. They even argued with the airport staff who wouldn't let them do it.

the absolute worst is as soon as the plane comes to a stop and the seatbelt signs go off half the plane stands up like it's a race to leave. News flash: it's going to be at LEAST 5 minutes before we're ready to deboard, and in case you forgot from your last flight, you deboard front to back. If you're in the back half of the plane there's no reason to start grabbing in the overhead yet ya jerk.

I like to go to the nearest bar to the terminal and drink a few cocktails until I hear the boarding call, drink another, and just make my way over there.
I have observed what you are saying though, people usually mad dash it as soon as the first group boarding call starts.

Subtle brag

One thing I've learned to do is make extremely long layovers, whether traveling for business or not. I have missed so many flights with only 1 hour layover. Mostly because my home airport, SHV, treats departure times as a light suggestion.
That way, when we arrive at DFW, I don't stab the guy who runs up from row 22 as soon as the seat belt sign gets turned off.
As to the OP: In Austin a few months ago I saw a guy who went to check in when 1st class was called. The ticket agent pointed out that he was not first class, but group 3. Every successive call to board he answered. About the 3rd time she asked if he spoke English. He did, he was just that stupid.
Another time my wife was flying from SHV. She overheard an old man and a young redneck ask each other why they had to take off their shoes in the security line. I guess neither had flown in the past 15 years.

For the first time ever I had a flight leave 15 minutes early, I guess everyone had checked in.

I haven't missed a connection in a long time :knockonwood:, and I generally get between 50 minutes to 1.5 hours in Atlanta.
ETA: To the OP, overhead space is the only reason. I usually check a bag and bring my laptop with me on the plane and put it under the seat. Unless I'm upgraded, I'm always waiting to board the plane last. It makes no sense to get on there in a hurry for me when everyone else is. I'll take my damn time.

Yep I was about to post this. I understand wanted to get the frick off of the plane but they arent going anywhere until the people in front get off first.

And there's those who are sitting in teh row behind you who are already standing and getting their shite from teh overhead which is preventing you from getting up and getting your stuff.
Like dude, the sooner you let me out the sooner you'll be leaving.

I blame Southwest Airlines. They started this mindset.

I was at JFK last year waiting to board and this guy in full Jewish attire was picking his nose, looking at the booger then eating it in front of at least 50 people. he did not give one frick.

I've seen a couple of times where they over book and the person already in the assigned seat stays on that plane and the other person is up shite creek.
