Typical of this me-first, entitlement, "everybody gets a trophy", PC Police society we've seen since HUSSEIN came into power.

Makes me want to !!! My g-pa is rolling over in his grave.

Yes

But in fact, a lot of children with downs WILL be able to accomplish those things.

is the kid graduating in May? if not, put him on the team next year and put him in in blowouts...

most schools have it where kids need to play a certain amount of quarters to earn a letter, then for every year after, you get a bar on your letter

lol at people in here acting like "the letter must be earned". It's a fricking HS varsity letter, not some prestigious rhodes-scholarship type honor.

If it makes the kid happy to wear it, then so be it, let him have his moment.

The people against something like this are probably the peaked in HS guys who still talk about their high school sport playing days.

Nice strawman. She couldn't be bothered to take any time out of her day to even make a phone call to the school. I'm not saying the school is in the right here, I'm saying she did some shite wrong too.

This too. Her sense of obliviousness to the meaning of the letter-which no matter what level you ascribe to it, others do feel it has meaning-on the front end of her decision-making process is curiously ironic compared to how much she herself cares about the letter on the back end of her decision-making process.

These folks talking smack about, "Let the kid wear a letter," seem to care way less than the Mom does. Why else would she fight so hard for it?

That's right...because she was totally ignorant and lazy-or otherwise-on the front end when she just bought and tried to pass it off.

Who. fricking. Cares?

Anybody who gets mad about this is an a-hole. IF the kid gives his letter back, he should do it at a press conference, reading an essay called "Here's Why You're All Dickheads".

Seriously. All the problems in the world and this bothers people?

What does it say to the kids who tried out for the team and didn't make it. Or the end of the benchers who didn't play enough to even get a letter?

There is a big difference in a kids with downs getting a participation award than a kid without downs getting one. making the arguement that there is no difference is just dumb.

no, it's not an achievement. it's an "achievement".

I would give this kid my letter if I was on the team. I have plenty. One means more to him that it ever would to me

The only one I cared about is academic letter. Letting for being on the Kittenz team matters none.

And even then, who mentions after high school that they lettered? Weird

Some achievements mean more than others.

Getting out of bed in the morning is an achievement. Putting on a shirt is one too.

Those are simple facts.

Earning a varsity letter is a small step higher than the ones I listed.

Any athlete worth a shite wouldn't care.

These people all should be crucified.

It's a fricking phone call, and she didn't even bother to do that, but the second the school said something she ran to the media. And ask them what? "Can I buy something and iron it onto something else I paid for?" And let's be real.. the school would have said yes to avoid controversy anyway. So the dickhole who wrote the note would still have written the note. And we'd still be here.

Stahp with the logic. It confuses the dumbasses.

Meh, it also matters what school.

Getting a letter at Live Oak wasn't really that big of an achievement. Hell, I was missing half a lung, and still managed to start (and... uh... be mediocre?) for almost a full season.

Now some place that is a high school powerhouse? Yeah that's a full blown achievement.

Missed the point entirely... All I was saying is this story wont any draw outrage... Only a mild debate from a bunch of low life pissants on a web forum...

Wasn't trying to, but merely stating an observation that outside of TD I would have most likely not run into this story..

But my bad for not being more detailed in my initial comments.. Guess I can work on that.. In to cut through the bullshite

Posted by GFunk I see both sides. The mother should have called the school first instead of acting unilaterally and shoving something down people's throats. Why didn't she pursue some guidance on this on the front end before doing all this work on the back end to force people to get her way? Bad parenting truth be told. Which sucks because the kid needs great parenting. Just my $0.02.

What? It's a piece of clothing.

If it's sold in a store and isn't profane he should be fine.
I lettered all 4 years in HS and never even got a jacket. Why? Because I don't give a shite.

If someone with downs plays a sport and gets excited about the idea of a letter on his jacket then let him wear it. The kids in this school need to stand up for their classmate.
