At this point, who cares, the discussion must be had. There's something suspect about the way Mitch undertook this effort. You would think his life or family depended upon it.
The last time I recall a politician working so personally for a particular issue was Edwin Edwards getting riverboat gambling passed. Politicians may fight for issues, but you start to recognize that special air when something else is at stake.

My point was in the broader context... why did Mitch go so far out on this one? No politician goes total scorched earth without something personal behind the curtain at stake. Politicians are in the business of minimizing risk and controversy, not motivating people to place full page ads.

He's term-limited out next year. Neither Senate seat is open next year and he's not going to buck his party by running against fellow Dem JBE for Governor.
Depending on where he lives he might run for Rep against Scalise.

I don't care what happens in his home or what he is doing socially. However I do care how shitty he has been as mayor, especially in his second term.
