I just think that he needs to get around himself because he's going to be like this for 6 weeks.

What kind of parents don't check on their son after surgery? No way I wouldn't be there when he goes under the knife.

It's either his mother or hire a care taker to wash his balls and take him to the bathroom for a few days. Your choice. I doubt a 26 year old wants his gf to take over that responsibility.
Honestly, I would rather have my GF wash my balls than my mother. What the frick is wrong with you people? And he's in his third year of law school. There's about a 1% chance a gf is bailing on his earning potential just because he hurt his arm and will need care for a few weeks. He should be living it up. Sponge baths, sangwiches, fluffy pillows, the works.

I tore my ACL and meniscus at age 23, I had no shame in spending the next few days at my grandma's house so I could have a little help. I was drugged out big time the day of the surgery, and the first day after the pain was terrible and I couldn't really walk. It was nice having someone there to help me. A few days later I was back home and able to hobble around on my own, but I was grateful for the help when I needed it.

There's nothing humerus about surgery. It's serious business.

I broke my humerus 2 years ago in September. I was 23 at the time. I got 7 screws and a plate, I'm sure your son got a plate as well.
I'm assuming he broke the bone in his dominant arm. It's going to take some time for him to adjust to using the opposite, which sucks. Everything becomes a chore: opening doors, brushing your teeth, wiping your arse, driving, eating. He'll adjust, but it'll take a minute. shite, even school will be a bitch now that he probably won't be able to write.
Let your wife go up there. She'll quit worrying, and he'll get help adjusting.

Damn.

Kafka beat you to this pun (almost verbatim) by about twelve hours. Should you be concerned that you both think alike?
Everyone is different, at age twenty-six I'd have only taken help from my mommy if I'd have been paralyzed. That's just me, but the guy is in the last year of a graduate program and playing rugby? I'm old-school, that time is the time to get ready for the real world. He's been in school since he was 18-ish?
A broken leg is well within the predictable outcome set of that activity, it wasn't as if it was a random car accident or a medical issue that came upon the guy.
He (the son) needs to man-up and take care of his own problems.
My kids would know better than to call me or their mom for something like that.
Them's the break(s)?

That fact that you say he needs to cowboy up says everything I need to know
Bet you think pussification is a word we should also be using in modern America.
