Pro tip if you do this kind of fraudulent stuff, do it before the child turns 10, that way none of the information should appear on their credit report. Their report should be back to being squeaking clean by the time they turn 17. If he or she pulls it at this age and those accounts are still there he can always dispute the information as fraud and the agencies should remove them given the age. Heck even in some states you have to be over 18 or 19 to even be eligible for a credit card.

Also who hasn’t used a dog or a cat’s name for a Columbia House membership and skip out after getting the 11 CD’s for one penny.

There is even an episode of the Simpsons where Bart gets a credit card in the name of the family dog. I wonder if that actually happens in real life with immigrants running amuck now in this country with out social security numbers.

Thats fake, but I know someone who had that happen. They still have a relationship with the parents, but its strained.

My wife had something along those lines. Sent her checks (work, student loans, scholarships) back hime when in college since she used their local bank. Her mom skimmed money. I don't know why she still talks to her.

My Dad did the opposite. Took out credit cards in our names and built our credit up before we knew what credit was. I’ve maintained a near perfect credit score my entire adult life.

It does happen often and has for decades. My 1st job out of college with a marketing degree and the economy in recession was manager trainee for a class A finance company. If you are going to make loans you will have to collect them too. A couple of times a year I would run across a sleazy parent who screwed over their kids. Did not have to worry about the ones using the loan to rebuild their credit, just the ones that took after the parent.

Worst case though was young wife during desert storm coming in for several thousands of dollars in loans in her service man husband name using a power of attorney. We legally could not stop her as he had the credit, ability, etc., and she had the proper paperwork. The worst part was one of the 2 guys she always came in with was Jody her bf.

Is the same thing accomplished by having them as an "authorized user" of a credit card and just not hand over the card to them?

I dunno if I'm missing a quote or some song lyrics. I had a decent chuckle either way.

He's talking about Davy, from piano man. That's why he was talking to Paul, the real estate novelist.
He was telling him why he couldn't afford a house, because his mother ruined his credit, and therefore he'd have to be in the Navy for life.

You have to go to a super secret Billy Jo-el show to hear the super secret verse.

Goes like this

"Well Paul is a real estate novelist, who never had time for a wife,
And he's talking to Davy, who's still in the Navy, and probably will be for life...

Yeah he was deployed on a submarine, when he got in really deep shite,
Navy blues dropped a bomb, when they told him his mom, used his name and ruined his credit,

Da-da-dee-da-da-dee-da-da...

I’m not sure. I just know when I got my drivers license he handed me a Visa card with my name on it. It was only to be used for Gas, and anything they tell me to buy. He said he had it for a while, also had one for my little sister, and would occasionally make purchases/pay them off in our names. This was in the 90’s, and I don’t have kids, so no idea what it’s like now.

Working w a trashy population will make you lose faith in humanity for the simple fact that they care for thier children only as a benefit to them. It's downright disgusting.

Staged

Does anybody stop and think for a moment that filming something like that from the very get-go is not normal?

Why did you link a clearly fake video?

Dude…all mortgage originators have offices that look like a cheap lawyers office.

And she would totally be reading trade lines off this guys credit report while he’s recording her

Completely fake but this kind of thing happens a lot in families where the parents are terrible with money. It’s a pretty crappy thing to do to a child, but it’s really common.

My ex SIL did this to my nephew and niece. She got credit cards on them both, falsifying signatures, and maxed out the cards, missed payments, interest built up, etc., then they found out when they tried to get credit on their own. They've both now cut her out of their lives and had to work with attorneys to get their credit cleaned up. Their mom had already been convicted of falsifying prescriptions to obtain oxy, lost her license as a nurse, violated parole, lost her family, spent time in jail, stole funds from an inheritance meant to be left to her kids, and then did the credit thing against her own kids. She's an awful person and the last time I spoke to her I could see and hear the evil in her voice and face.

Had a friend whose dad took out student loans and stident credit card offers in all three of his kids names. They were all on scholarship and working and did not know about the loans.

Ruined all three kids credit.
