Sometimes those suspects shot in the back of a cop car do it themselves

Burglary suspect in LC shoots himself in back of cop car
it was apparently all on video, too, so no funny business (allegedly, per the article)

The suspect sustained two self-inflicted gunshot wounds to his right foot. Officials said it is unknown whether the suspect intended to shoot himself or the officers.
The weapon used is a departmental weapon issued to the officer that left an equipment bag in the back seat of the unit. The suspect was taken to a local hospital to be treated.

Either way, its a pretty bone head move. Seems like the last place in a cop car one would think to store a loaded gun.
