re: Someone teach me the basics of pokemon

It's a turn based RPG. You start with one and you have to battle and capture others in order to both get stronger and to diversify your party. Different Pokemon are different elements, and each element has a strength and weakness. As you continue your journey, you'll encounter gym's and gym leaders. Those gyms have a specific type of Pokemon that they train, so it's smart to find that element's weakness and create a party of Pokemon to counter it. It's a pretty awesome game. Back in my day, the most powerful Pokemon was MewTwo. No idea what it is now.


And as another poster said, Charizard was the most bad arse!! A party of Charizard, Dragonite, Alakazam, Gyrados, Zapados, and Golem was
