It's a turn based RPG. You start with one and you have to battle and capture others in order to both get stronger and to diversify your party. Different Pokemon are different elements, and each element has a strength and weakness. As you continue your journey, you'll encounter gym's and gym leaders. Those gyms have a specific type of Pokemon that they train, so it's smart to find that element's weakness and create a party of Pokemon to counter it. It's a pretty awesome game. Back in my day, the most powerful Pokemon was MewTwo. No idea what it is now.

man I grew up at the height of Pokemon. I was in 5th grade when the game boy color came out. I played until about 8th grade.

Paige has a son?.... That's all I've gotten out of this. Know nothing about Pokemon, sorry buddy. When my padnas were fricking with that sort of thing I was in a crawfish lake/rice field.
