I didn't realize that was a thing. How much of a refund do you get for returning them? It can't be very much.

They didn't do it as part of a trade-in your old boxes for value sort of thing. They paid for them and used them. When they were done they returned them to get their money back.

We threw out so many boxes every night. Anyone that asked could have as many as we had. I can't imagine we were the only store that would just give them away.

When I worked at Academy several years back, we had a box crusher and would sell the carboard bails to a recycling company that would come pick them up and use the money for our christmas party.

I bought a big stack of boxes at Home Depot in their moving section. I just noticed one of the boxes has a kid's name on it and says "baby clothes". Someone actually bought cardboard boxes, taped them and used them, then broke them back down to return them to Home Depot for a refund.

Worst I've heard and have no way of knowing if true is someone returned a chicken that was eaten down to the bone to Costco and asked for a refund. Said they didn't like it and they wanted another one. Costco gave it to them free of charge.

I waited on a table a few months ago. These two trashy individuals ate, and then the guy headed out the door with togo boxes leaving is old lady in the booth. Then she started asking for a manager, complaining that the food was awful, service was bad, and everything else she could think of. Manager gave her the food for free. I just stood in the back laughing because I knew what was up then second he got up and headed for the door.

We had the same thing at Winn-Dixie but we always had people ask us to save some big boxes for them. It was never a problem.
