Some questions for tv at the tailgate

This year I would like to set up a big tv to watch the best games of the day. I have directtv and they sell the camping dish for 60 bucks. The directions are average to say the least. Would I bring a receiver from my house or will they make me buy an extra one just for camping Also, how hard is it to adjust the satellite. Thanks for the help in advance.

We have gotten rid of our dishes and just stream watch espn through apple TV, using an apple phone for the actual Internet connection.

Been doing it for years. Not hard especially if you tailgate in the same place each week and you already know exactly where to point it. There is an app for phones that can help you point the dish. I use it on away games and I never have an issue. General direction is south. Little harder if you have a dish that needs to pick up 3-5 sats (5 Lnb) at the same time. I have a separate receiver that I store with all my tailgate stuff but you can bring your home receiver.

I wouldn't think you would get a good enough connection on campus for that but it seems like the easiest way.

Trying to stream games at a tailgate using wifi or data is about as miserable as it gets

We did this for years. Worked well in the morning. By around noon the stream sucked because cell service started to suffer with all the people on campus.
We switched to a dish tailgater last year. Has worked great so far. One time purchase of dish and box and $30/months for 3 months a year. Works great.

Warning, do not stream on campus. Especially if you leave a party behind to watch the game and you go in. You will be crucified when the streaming fails right in the middle of a big game. Stick with your direcTv

If you can get a PAWS account from someone. OP didn't mention if he was a student or not. Coverage isn't bad but couldn't tell you if it could sustain a broadcast or not.
