then the IRS should go out and target panhandlers if it's such a huge issue...I personally don't have an issue. If you don't want to give money, don't. If you want to give money, do. If the IRS wants their share, then go after them.
They could add a "panhandling" line item in the income area in the same section as the "bribes received" line item.

They're not all the same, some are in pretty tight spots

The problem is the people who do give them money. If they didn't they wouldn't continually ask me for money. They are enabling them to continue to be a nuissance.
I suggest we round them up and take them into the deep woods...like with problematic bears.

And then what? Just let them fend for themselves or die?

Literally just last week I saw a guy in a lifted Dodge Durango pull into in the back of a Wal Mart parking lot. He gets out of the car, opens the back and a big German Shepherd on a leash jumps out (which was the reason it got my attention and I looked over...was a cool looking dog).
He and the dog looked a little grungy/dirty, but not bad. He then pulls out a gas can and a cardboard sign that said "Out of Gas" and started walking across the parking lot to the corner

i never give them money
BUT
last weekend in the wal mart siegen area, guy with his "wife" and 2 small kids standing on the corner of that main road thru there, sign saying lost his job and needed help
100% scam im sure, but seeing the little kids sucked, so i gave him a few bucks

Sounds like another sensational story with fabricated facts from confidential witnesses.
To clear over $35,000 per year you basically need to pull in $100 by begging almost each and every day of the year.
Not buying it. The vast majority of these hopeless misfits pull in just enough to eat something and get high so it's not like they are putting money in the bank.

Probably because he has burnt bridges with his family for being an addict. Tough love by family. They have done everything to help him and he wouldn't help himself.
Probably. I am ok with helping the guy get a motel room for the night. I don't need $5.

So a roving band of folks who can't hold down jobs, are highly likely to have mental issues, and possibly drug and alcohol issues are told to survive or die...Yep nothing could go wrong here.
Personally, I just think the city should stay out of it. Donate or don't donate it, but the city should stay out of it.

They really don't bother me unless they are really loud and/or in your face with the begging.
Not sure why the quiet ones bother anybody.

very doubtful he got a hotel room...crack, alcohol, meth is what he likely used that money for.
but it's your money to do with as you wish.

thats fine. Whatever. I felt good about at least trying to help and its not like $5 set me back anything.
I rarely give to homeless though.
ETA:
Nashville homeless people sell newspapers called The Contributor. Lots of cities do a variation of it. They buy them in bulk for like 50 cents each and sell them on street corners for $1.
Its really great. They have to pass drug tests to sell them and there are tons of success stories of it helping people get off the streets. I ALWAYS buy Contributors. (even though the paper itself is hot garbage )

My problem is when they're out in the street, even after the light turns green. If I clip one of them with my mirror, then what? I've got to stop, get out, help the a-hole, and then my insurance will have to pay for his arse.

What do you think cities should do to crack down on panhandling?
Do like the Atlanta police did during the 1996 olympics. They rounded these guys up and dropped them in Dekalb county and told em that they'd beat hell out them if they showed up in Fulton in the next 6 weeks.

A - Most selling are not homeless
B - As soon as a couple eat steel that will end that.
Have you seen the "homeless" young blonde on Old Hickory Blvd in Brentwood? I bet she get lots of "tips"
