Is it still a thing? I can remember seeing it on newsstands as a kid and thinking how cool it was. Never really appreciated that the intended audiences was military mercenaries. I just liked the cool weapons and stuff.

Related question....are there really military mercenaries around looking for work?

IIRC some ole boy used the classifieds to try to arrange a hit on his wife and they got taken to the woodshed.

It's all corporatized now. See: Blackwater or whatever they've changed their name to. There are still guys running around Africa doing that shite to a degree. A guy from my hometown, quite a bit older than me, was a Green Beret in Vietnam then fought in the Rhodesian bush wars. Last I heard he guides Safaris in South Africa now.

I remember that magazine when I was a kid in the 80's...my uncle had a subscription and would pass them on to me when he was finished with them. I was into anything military and read them cover to cover.

Africa in the late 70's/early 80's was the heyday for that scene. Some in South America as well. Wherever political instability and easily transportable local wealth (i.e. gems, drugs, etc) reign, you will find mercenaries.

Ex South African and British military were in high demand with regime turnovers and anti-communist under the table work. British soldiers were coming off The Falklands and work in Northern Ireland, and before that various stations in Africa.

I loved the ads as a kid. Bought some awesome books through them such as Improvised Munitions, Anarchist Cookbook, and various revenge "for entertainment purposes only" books. Also bought a couple of military grade smoke bombs that made for some good time shenanigans.
