Social Media will cause the end of the world

Scrolling through Facebook for the first time in a while and I'm convinced that social media will be partly to blame for the end of the world.
We live in a time where people can just make shite up, hide behind anonymous sources, and within an hour the lies and fake news has made its way around the globe. Most people are too lazy to research for themselves and just believe whatever news hack websites and twitter experts feed them. Sad to think that Pandora's box has been opened.
For the past 65+ years, we've theorized that the atomic bomb was the worst invention ever and would ultimately lead to our demise. It's my opinion that social media has surpassed nuclear weapons as the number one threat to humanity.

This has been the case since the beginning of broadcast media. The only difference is that social media gave regular arse people the same power that the news media had for decades.

Facebook, and social media in general, has it's plusses, but people just act way differently on it than they would in an everyday conversation.
Especially when it comes to race, politics, religion, etc. You have an audience of almost every friend/acquaintance you know watching every word you post, so people feel the need to prove themselves right in an argument to the point where they become rude and downright hateful to others. I've seen so many posts where people treat others like shite to try and make themselves seem "right" on a topic. And you know these people would never speak to others that way in person.
That's why I don't post that much on FB. If I want to have a conversation with someone about race, politics, or religion I'm doing it in person over a beer, joint, or coffee.
