mitch landrieu and politics aside. not being facetious.

why do you care? do you have a personal connection to them? do you just "consider it a part of the city that's been there for a long time"? do you feel it memorializes your fallen great grandpa/uncle/mother/aunt? is it "that guy was a hero, he should have a monument"? do you "wish the south had won the war"? is it because "affected" people are getting what they want when they shouldn't?

i'm not gonna argue here. just gonna hang up and listen.

Its a symbol of New Orleans art. It would be no different than someone bulldozing the Superdome, Cabildo, French Market, or the French Quarter. When people think of New Orleans this is one of the architectural pieces that people love because of the beauty of the monument.

i'm actually just trying to learn Y.A. why this is affecting everyone so much that it's causing mass panic and protests.

i'm trying to actually ask an honest question.

so you just feel like it's become an essential part of the character of the city? and the city is diminished with having them removed.

Because F*** Mitch Landrieu.

Also, I think Lee Circle is one of the coolest monuments around even if he really didn't have a major connection with New Orleans. It is a major landmark in New Orleans. Everyone asks where Mardi Gras parades are at in relation to Lee Circle during Mardi Gras season.

Not from New Orleans but common sense would tell me that people are pissed that politicians care so much about a fricking monument when there are much more important and pressing issues in the city that they should be focusing on.

For me it's the underlying reason. More leftist, PC culture, blah blah blah.

After the statues what's next... People? Possibly, especially ones that don't agree with their views.

i don't see what that has to do with the monuments themselves. can you explain?

Because they were men important to making the south what they were, they were important to shaping our country. They were not in any way shape or form symbols of racism anymore so than a White T-shirt for simply not being black.

I kinda do, yeah. I dig the history of things. I don't even care about the Civil War.

The entrance to City Park looks like utter dogshit now.

It's all so fricking utterly stupid.

so you think the removal of the statues indicates a radical shift left in political correctness in a place you care about, and you're worried about it becoming a slippery slope and affecting people close to you or yourself directly?

Yes, it's a slippery slope. Lee paid his dues and was granted a pardon. They even turned his family estate into Arlington cemetery.

would you feel like they could be replaced with things to fill that void? or is there an attachment to those heroes specifically.

like a drew brees statue

Correct and its history are removed which is one of the reasons people come to visit this city and why people who are from here associate with some of the monuments. Beauregard and Robert E. Lee statutes were incredible pieces of art which sadly reduces the uniqueness of New Orleans quite a bit.

It has nothing to do with the confederacy at all for me.

Yes. Think about how all this nonsense started and then look at where we are today (a nut job in South Carolina)

And look at the rest of the demands this group still has.

It would be one thing if this actually accomplished something, but it doesn't. And the sjws prove time and time again if you give an inch they try to rename your entire fricking city.

lee was a commendable general who surrendered when he could've let his army continue to fight for years and cost even more thousands of lives. they would have for certain. that in itself qualifies him as a hero in my book.

so it sounds like you have an attachment to robert e. lee as a historical figure who is statue worthy?
