You are thinking about this wrong (which is the whole problem with car prices)

That car will only cost you $600 a month for the next 7 years

I very briefly considered trading in my 2016 Tundra

A couple got divorced and she got his 2015 Tundra. She stopped paying the note so he got it back. He had a tricked-out Wrangler and wanted payoff on the Tundra. Worth was $27k and payoff was $16.5k. I got it last Oct. and have not regretted it.

Buy American.

Was basically kicked out a stealership today. After they initally lowballed me on my tradein, i countered with a lowball on the new vehicle. Asked them how that feels. They somehow were able to find 4k to add to my trade in in the blink of an eye when i called them out on it.

daughter (no pics,) bought a house just before then, it tripled in Zillow estimate, she put it on the market this week and is under contract for asking price

I assume she’s gonna rent for a year or two then? Otherwise what was the point of selling?

I just saw a 2011 (actually 2007! Guy has owned it since 11) Odyssey with 200k miles listed by a private seller for $20k. Wut? Maybe it was the handicap ramp but still. That cuts both ways because much smaller market.

Just got a used 20 ram, fully loaded interior,4x4, looks brand new, no scratches, 20 inch rims, good tires, etc. 31k and they were asking 40k. I put down half and have a damn near perfect credit score. It was a dealer with low prices and they didn’t negotiate. They got me by lowering my credit score on the loan and got me a shite rate. I told them I would refinance after and did. Went through my credit Union and it was simple. Screw all dealerships. I would recommend buying from a person and getting your own lender if you have to.

When it comes to houses I bought in 14 and it was cheap, it’s over doubled in value but if I sell it it’s funny money because every other house is priced ridiculously. This shite will bust eventually.

Same, mine was sticker 35,000 in 2011. Bought it brand new for 24,000. Same truck now is north of 50,000 last I looked. I know that has been 12 years ago but damn.

Terrible decision, interest alone on her next house will eat up her profits over the next few years. Huge difference between a loan at 3% interest and 7% interest even if you put 20% down

This^^^^^^

Folks either aren’t doing basic math or are living in a false narrative…the difference in 2.5% vs 7% on a 30 year mortgage is spaceman math.

You can get a new 2023 tundra for under 40k.

The thing is that people want options.

We bought my wife a used 2022 BMW X5 last year. Loaded to the gills with 6k miles. It’s “arctic grey” but she really wanted white. We started looking around at whites ones just to see if we could flip it without getting any deeper.

It now has 9.5k miles. Our initial trade in offer: $41k. Bumped to $45k immediately when we said thanks, but no thanks and got up to leave.

Used 2022 BMW X5. White. Loaded to the gills (same exact amenities as ours) with 8k miles: $59k with no budge on price because they “can’t keep them on the lot”.

ETA: Forgot to add that our interest rate, while a slightly better credit score, would go up 2 points as well.
