Small Canadian Town is Perfectly Preserved Time Capsule

I searched and found nothing even though Sept 4th is ancient by OT standards.

So a mining company built a town in BC, Canada. The market collapsed and the town was essentially shut down...some people were forcibly evicted from their homes.

Now, this town sits idle and preserved, books still in the library, darts in dartboard, etc.

As one commenter put it, "This would be a great place to drop a passed out friend off after a night of drinking."

Article

quote:

On the north coast of British Columbia in Canada, where the Alaskan border is closer than the nearest town, lies a mysterious hidden place, accessible only by a long arduous gravel road behind a locked gate. Ninety-four homes, two hundred apartments, a hospital, shopping mall, Town & Country restaurant, movie theatre, sports centre, a Royal Bank; all the amenities you could possibly need in this remote part of the world await behind the towering mountains. The only thing missing are the people. Welcome to Kitsault, BC.

I only looked at pictures and did not read, but who keeps up with the town (mows grass, maintenance). Seems like without any attention, those pics would be a lot worse.

Well, it's not exactly convenient to anything.

Still, that fricking mining company did those folks right. Movie theater, library, school, bank, etc. They set them the frick up. That's not like any company town I've seen in America.

re: Small Canadian Town is Perfectly Preserved Time Capsule
I was wondering the same. From the article:

quote:

But back in the empty town of Kitsault, the news that the abandoned town is no longer to become a utopian resort but a major natural gas hub, has been hard to swallow for one woman. In this report by CBC, we meet Indhu Mathew, Kitsault’s only resident.

Hired by Mr. Suthanthiran as a caretaker and mayor of sorts, Indhu grew passionate about the town and aside from cleaning and repairing, she has paid special attention to preserving it like a museum, just as it was left. She has been inside every room of every building in Kitsault and feels a great respect for the residents who were so abruptly uprooted from their once promising new lives…

Damn Canadians. They abandon a town for 25 years and it still looks better than our shite that is currently in use. Damn their politeness. Damn their neatness.

Ok that explains it.

There would be tons of dust in those rooms and such, but I guess she's been windexing for awhile.

I think it has more to do with the climate than anything. A town like that in the south would not last for 10 years let alone 25.

The heat and humidity would destroy those houses. You'd see mold and moss everywhere. Cabinet doors would be sagging. Not a damn one of those ceiling tiles would still be up.

I mean just look at the carpet. It's still clean and bright.

Ya, I agree that the climate might be responsible.

However, thawing and refreezing causes some damage too. You'd think there be some cracking from that somewhere.

All bull shite aside, can you imagine how eerie this has to be for this guy? One dude, in an abandoned town, 100 miles from nowhere. Everyday, he gets up, travels, upkeeps the town, cuts crass, and no one is there. How long before you went bat shite crazy doing this?

Because cold doesn't have an effect on things? lol

Contraction and expansion alone does a hell of a lot of damage.
