LINK

Just voted on it.

In a vote 5 to 4, the Caddo Parish Commission's Monument Advisory Committee did not adopt the recommendation to move the monument.

I think they need to go ahead and move it. Someone needs to buy some of the vacant land off downtown and put up a park.

I seriously can't see this being the end of the issue. Pro-monument folks need to get proactive and get ahead of the game if they want to keep it from being Landrieud.

It used to have a confederate flag on it. They took it down a few years ago.

It's supposedly on private property as a gift from the city to the Daughters of the Confederacy a long time ago, but I think pro-monument folks are having a hard time proving that.

Actually I think the anti-monument people are the ones who are not able to prove the parish owns the small parcel of land where the monument sits...they think if they repeat enough the lie/fake news that the DAC doesn't own it, the populace will believe them...classic Alinsky "rules for radicals".

You may be right. I've heard conflicting stories.

I follow John Andrew Prime on FB...he is a former longtime reporter for the Shreveport times, a local historian and was one of the members of the committee tasked with gathering public opinion. He has done exhaustive research on the issue and has stated the DAC definitely owns the land and would prevail if the issue is taken to court...

The story that was told to me was that the city's meeting minutes didn't mention it.

So it may be that the DotC have the goods and the city doesn't accept the claim.

That's one nice looking monument, little iron fence and all.

Friend of mine is on that committee.

But they had an open transparent process with plenty of legitimate public involvement. Too bad Mitch didn't want the same.

Is this the thread where everyone will bitch about this not going to a public vote?

How is Shreveport gonna ever flourish as a good city now with the statue not being removed? Come on Shreveport take the statue down and be as good of a city as NOLA currently is

Solution: Leave the monument, move the courthouse. That courthouse is old and too small for current needs. Build a new one somewhere else.

Make the current site a park with all sorts of statues: Robert E Lee, Jesus, Santa, Edwin Edwards, MLK, Hazel Beard, Abe Lincoln, etc. The history loving statue worshippers can come picnic and revere their respective heroes,

The new courthouse should have no art or statues. People can't handle it,

The minutes do show the parish voting the donation of the land, but the actual filed deed has not been found.
Also the parish did not have a deed to the property until the 1950s, the monument has been there since 1906
