Why not just head a couple hours north to Hot Springs Village and retire there?

This is really a dumb point. You could pick a 9 hour window like that out for every 100k+ populated city in America.

But why?
Because it's the worst place in the world for 18-21's.

Nah, not really. Boulder and Fort Collins both have right over 100k and see maybe one shooting a year on average

Seriously though, Shreveport is always at the top of the "shitty places for 18-21's" lists, which indicates an advantage for old farts.

Shreveport is a good place to live for Military retirees. Barksdale Air Force Base is right there in Bossier.

I saw an article where it was rated a top place for millennials. That gave me a hearty laugh. It's almost like some rich donor is paying magazines to rank the city favorably in hopes of tricking people to move there.

Is this including Bossier or is it just Shreveport proper?

It's not cold and your dollar goes a long way.

But Mississippi doesn't tax retirement income.

Every other place listed has some youthful appeal. Hell, even Norman, OK (which was sort of a headscratcher there) is a college town. Seems to be sort of the trend that most retirees don't want to just live around a bunch of other old fogies. I'm guessing it was just some aggressive maneuvering by a chamber of commerce individual to get Shreveport on that list. It's hard to see it's general appeal for an outsider to relocate there to retire otherwise.

I guess, you can play golf with Zach, though.

Couldn't help thinking after reading the title about how old animals like to find a quiet spot to lay down and die

BR and NOLA have their problems but they're still better than Shreveport. Not saying they're perfect but less worse for sure

Retirement related issues:

Cost of living
Excellent medical care
Traffic is like a much smaller city (so less stressful)

You're kidding, right?

Baton Rouge is a dying city. Horrible infrastructure, constantly a democrat stronghold which is why nothing ever gets done, crime rate through the roof, no real tourist attraction, bars are ok at best, and north Baton Rouge is starting to trickle down to the rest of BR.

NOLA has pretty much the exact same problems as BR except that it's a tourist attraction and their problems are about double what BR's are.
