With technology being what it is today and information being at your fingertips at all times, kids today should be a whole lot smarter in my opinion. I know education starts at home, but even the laziest parent can help their kids get homework done by using google on your smartphone. For instance, I wanted to get my nephew more practice doing 2 step equations so I just googled it and found tons of practice work sheets and made him do 50 problems. To me there is no excuse for kids falling behind ever. As I think about it though, parents truly have to have a child's best interest in mind and that idea seems to be slipping further behind every thing else.

Just because your kids are dumb doesn't mean everyone else's kids are dumb

Technology doesn't make you smarter, its just changes the way we learn. Everyone nowadays has shorter attention spans and problems remembering things. And that has to do with technology.

I've read several books and done a lot of research on this topic. ^

Info is easier to access, meaning less effort is needed to obtain said information.

In general kids are smarter than they have ever been. Standards are higher. 200 years ago the standard was literacy. Nowadays the expectations are higher.

On the other hand I have heard a modern deficiency is a lowered general attention span spurred by an overload of information and stimulus.

Kid is a phenom athlete and pretty smart. I want him to go to Stanford, Vandy or GT. Being a great athlete alone won't cut it at these schools, so we are focusing hard on math.

I'm not there to be his friend, I'm there to make sure he has what he needs to be successful in life.

I do that as well. We have fun, but we will also make sure we get school work done. After we did the equations we played 3 games of 2K
