Bump, for a reason.
People in NW Arkansas need to quit bitching about the interstate construction, until they figure out this concept. Yeah, the construction makes things frustrating. But it's not why your rush hour traffic is so bad. Y'all don't know how to drive.

For the record, zipper merging doesn’t count for people who Jump into an exit lane only to not exit and jump ahead back into traffic.
Also for people who ride in left lane when right lane exits and jump over last minute to exit...that isnt zipper merging.

I'd wager most people aren't zipper merging not because they don't understand it, but because they assume that if they speed past a line of cars to the end, the people that they zipped past are going to be dicks and not let them in.

Unfortunately for you, what you're doing is illegal. There's a reason for it too, traffic engineers don't want people forming a long line far in advance, they want you to zipper merge.
If for some reason you have some urge to form a line like a sheep, you might consider driving lessons.

Why don't they post signs or diagrams explaining this new zipper thing with all of these fancy film examples?

I'm not letting you jump the line, baw.

Not sure. But it would end the global overpopulation problem

I waited in line like a good little boy. No way I'm letting one of you inconsiderate ducks merge. I do t give a goddamn about your "zipper."

I agree, I'm also one of the people that will ride the center line to keep others from jumping line. Wish more people did.
You sir are an idiot and part of the problem. All you have done is created a second merge point further back from where you are legally suppose to merge.
At the intersection of Greenwell Springs Rd and Central thruway, Greenwell Springs merges to one lane heading east. Idiots won't go to the proper merge point so they start merging too far in advance backing up traffic in the middle of the intersection while the entire right lane is empty. People are so fricking stupid.

You should zip your balls in a zipper for bumping a 10 month old shitty thread.

Yes, as should people who randomly hit their brakes on the interstate causing a slow down.

JMO, but if there is a bottleneck in traffic ahead of you, I don't think it really has much of an effect on where traffic merges. Early or late merging, the same amount of traffic still has to get through the same width of road at some point.

Zipper merging is a huge lie. The cars in the open lane must slow to allow merging at the pinch. This is what causes the biggest slowdown. Getting cars past this point smoothly is way more important than using both lanes.

But if I started a new thread, people would raise hell about that. Can't please everyone.
But I was in the left lane, and traffic started backing up in the other two. I probably drive 2 miles before I hit the lane closure. And since I work in infrastructure construction, and hear people around here bitch about traffic, I couldn't help but laugh at why the traffic is actually bad.

You went back to a January thread just to say that, baw?

I didn't really look at the date. Just used the search feature.

its not a lie, in principle is works great, or better than not. The problem is that people dont act like that gif and if the left lane guy doesnt let the right lane guy in like they should, it all goes to shite. It's asking too much because people are stupid, esp in baton rouge.

Exactly. That "Unused Road" section in the graphic is pointless. Using that section isn't going to make the single land ahead move faster.
