Are there any programs that LSU has that you all feel the university would be off without.
Philosophy, Women Studies, French Literature, etc .
Or do you find the innate worth of these degrees to valuable.

What job opportunities do these programs provide?
If my tax dollars support TOPS, then the graduates should be able to provide ROI on the education

Idk man this is tough.
The whole concept of a university being a place of higher learning makes me think that as many courses on as many topics as possible should be offered. That is the true spirit of a university.
Unless it is for profit, then it should clearing focus on ROI.
But then you start looking at what a public university vs a private university should do and I think their end goals are probably innately different. A public university should probably just do what the majority of the people paying for it want out of it.

People who graduate in women's studies from LSU are not going to amount to anything other than another Women's Studies professor, pissy HR rep or phone bank manager.

From reading your posts, it seems a Women's Studies degree from LSU is more marketable than an engineering degree from Southern.

All more valuable than someone with a Southern Engineering degree.

True. But from what I recall, you said that it was still very challenging for her to work up the corporate ladder. It probably took years of work post-degree. Was it the experience from working multiple interns help her or the education itself?
I am not saying that French literature is not important. Understanding the works of classical French authors can teach very effective rhetoric and writing skills.

They should cut Southern University.

You realized you have completely ruined any chance of someone from TD ever hiring you.

What do you find more often...a four leaf clover or an employed engineering Southern grad?
