for our 2 year old, what has worked is that she knows it is not hers

when we take it we tell her to give it to momma or daddy and she is usually pretty good about it

I gave my kid one when he was 3 but I didn't put batteries in it. I told him as soon as he learned how to do the dishes without getting water all over the floor I would put batteries in it. Well he learned but I changed the game on the little bastard. Told him I would put batteries in it if he cleaned the pool out every morning before his chores started. Well he cleaned the pool out but never got his batteries. Haha, kids are soooo stupid.

I'm glad I didn't have to deal with this when my kids were young. The constant need for visual stimulation with the ipads/phones coincides with the gigantic increase of ADHD diagnosis. Little Junior Baby Sonofabitch can't sit the frick still for longer than 5 minutes because his brain has been programmed from about 6 months that if he throws a fit this magical, colorful, loud shite pops up on a floating screen.

Kids really shouldn't be watching TV or iPad videos at that young age, although it is alright for momentary distractions.

They should normally have constructive distractions and be read books.

I believe that Ipads/tablets that parents give to their children are bad for several reasons. First, it is mostly done by parents who don't know the limitations to which the child should use them, and in turn end up giving it to their child to appease them bc they aren't good parents. Second, I think it limits their physical development and creativity. Kids these days only want to play games on ipads/video game consoles (much like the older generation too). They are great tools when used properly, but can be very bad habits. I see my nieces and nephews becoming so dependent on them it sickens me. I am about to be a first time parent and my wife and I seriously talked about this and that we need to limit the amount of time we use our phones/tablets in front of our child so they don't try to emulate us.

Our kids were on them at an early age. They learned tons from playing the educational games on them.

The Ipad technology today is a must for 2-3 year olds. It is really educating toddlers to levels never seen before. Unfortunately it is also creating a have-have not situation when school starts because the kids who on the Ipads playing educational games are really advanced than those kids who didn't have that tool at a young age.

congrats. kids are all at once the greatest and worst thing that will ever happen to you. I have 2 (1 & 2 yrs old). Hard but awesome. My 2 year old just told me she loved me for the first time the other day. Best feeling in the world.

Studies show that allowing children under 2 to watch tv is a negative. That includes educational television.

It can actually delay development.

My son will be 2 in November. Right now, he can't get enough of books. He has literally spent entire Saturdays in the library. It's to the point where he's "reading" (from memory) some of his favorites to us. We bring books with us when we're out to eat.

For now, he only sees our iphones as a phone. He'll take them and scream "hello" for a few minutes then hand it back. We usually just let him "talk" to his grandparents and great grandparents.

I don't want this stage to end, but I also don't want him to be behind. Eventually, we'll start to allow him to use one of our ipads for the educational aspect and to help with the dexterity required for touch screens. But in terms of length of use, just like everything else so far, we'll just wing it.

Why should that make you laugh? I have 7 Nieces and nephews all very young. I spend a lot of time with them. I'll understand that in order to get my child to stop crying I have to give them technology?
