Had a situation tonight in our softball league where a runner was heading towards home, and the catcher stepped out partially into the baseline to attempt to catch the ball and make a play. The runner barrelled straight into the catcher just as the ball was getting there and the runner tagged home after the collision and the ball went flying.

The umpire ruled the runner safe and simply said that the catcher was in the base path. Granted this is a slow pitch recreational softball league where the catcher is not wearing pads of any kind, and Homeplate collisions have been largely outlawed in all levels of baseball now.

What says the OT?

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a 275 pound grown man coming down a base path

You hone that killer instinct from years of travel ball, and you don't just turn it off that easily.

We play in co-ed tournaments, normally my sister (no pics) is catching. If a juiced up 35 year old who couldnt make it off the JV team would run into her I'm pretty sure I'd at home plate beating his arse before he have a chance to touch home plate.

Saw a guy do this in Coed. Completely destroyed a 110lb 20 year old girl. He was tossed from the park for the weekend. They had to stop 6-7 guys from whooping his arse.

Well if a man is running over a woman it's different.

Sure you would.

Most of the time we have myself, my older brother, her boyfriend, and another two or three other guys that grew up with us playing....

...the situation would be similar.

That guy deserves to have his arse kicked.

We had a girl do it to the girl behind home plate but it was for strategic reasons.

After that every time there was a play at the plate, the girl catcher was hesitant to try to make a play cause she had gotten roughed up.

So we pretty much could push running home on small hits.

And yes, we won really easily.

Some people care to much.

I quit playing "recreational" sports because of heroes trying to recapture the glory days.

Recreational sports rules:
1. Have fun
2. Do not injure anyone. Avoid collisions.
3. Remember, the results are truly meaningless

well, when you have a bunch of roid monkeys trying to impress trailer park queens, collisions are going to happen

She shouldn't be catching or getting in the runner's base path. Do you get what the runner's base path means? It's not the catcher's stand with the ball to try to get the runner out path.

Rolling someone at the plate and hitting back up the middle at the pitcher are no-no's in rec. softball. You will get your arse whipped for both. No need for it.
