Our family is moving to BR by end of summer/start of school, and we are planning on buying a house this fall. The tricky part is that the main house we are considering buying is under construction and won't be complete until October.

What does the OT recommend for short term housing -- apartments? Sublease? It's my wife and three kids, so we'd need at least 2 bedrooms and preferably 3.

Also -- if, the house above does not work out, generally we are looking at buying in either Southdowns or Pollard. Thoughts on these neighborhoods? Our kids will go to St. Aloysius.

Shouldn't you have this figured out if the house is already under construction? Or did you mean renting in either Southdowns or Pollard?

Both good neighborhoods, by the way. St. Aloysius is in Southdowns, if that helps.

I should have been more specific. El Cid is our clear #1...we are just trying to figure out #2 and the rest of the list.

When we moved in from Colorado we arranged a 6 month lease on a small home and took our time finding a home. I'm glad we did because a home came available exactly where we wanted to live in month four.

google Blackstone realty. they do alot of short term rentals for the movie industry.

also, I believe the Mansions will do short term if you want an apartment.

Southdowns and Pollard are great neighborhoods but if the house you want is under construction, how have you not already decided on a neighborhood?

Depending on your budget, and willingness to be further south of Baton Rouge, Highland Club Apartments offer short term and month to month leases. Obviously it is more expensive than a six or twelve month lease, but it is offered and it's an above average complex. Stocked "lakes" (read: ponds), plenty of space for off leash dogs if that is your thing.

The worst part about it is they have ducks that fricking quack all the damn time. Have thought about killing them at night on several occasions.

Edit: Didn't think to mention. Its located down Jefferson about 3 miles from Blue Bayou.

Your kids already got accepted at St. Aloysius?

Southdowns and Pollard Estates are both good areas. Pollard is going to have a lot less traffic as it doesn't have a zillion cross streets/cut-throughs to main arteries.

I made some edits to OP:

We have not bought the house that is under construction, but we are strongly considering it. We are selling here in Texas, therefore timing may be off.

If that house does not work out, then Pollard and Southdowns are the current focus because yes, our kids got in to St. Aloysius.

I have a friend who rents his fully furnished 3/2 house by the month. I think he gets around $2500 for it. He rents primarily to corporate people on short term assignments. It's in the Tara/Goodwood area. If you're interested I'll find out more.

Look up Southland Properties Inc. You might be able to find a decent house to rent for a while.

Gotcha.

Also look at these neighborhoods along Highland near Lee:
College Hills
University Acres
Woodstone
Woodgate
Plantation Trace

Those areas are also close to St. Aloysius and you can get to Perkins/Essen easily from them too. Some of them only have one entrance into the neighborhood, which can be good for security/traffic, but may sometimes make it difficult to get out of the neighborhood.

ETA: I have no idea about Catholic Parish lines and the requirements for living in the zone to attend the school.

Here's a LINK to the listing. This is a very convenient location to just about everything, including St. Aloysius. It's also a very safe area.
