Mom had sudden extreme hearing loss in one ear and permanent hearing damage from a Shingles outbreak about a decade ago.

If she had not already had a scheduled visit to audiologist it could have been complete deafness in at least 1 ear. Audiologist got her in for MRI for the definitive diagnosis and treatment immediately skipping the appointment lines of waiting non-emergency scans but took a bunch of calling around just for that.

Yeah it started off feeling like I was get a hot spot, like something was rubbing my raw but there wasn’t any seems or anything on my shirt.

Eventually the rash broke out.

It sucks.but I got In the antiviral pretty quickly.

I was Only like 28. Stress man.

It’s actually the level of pain I would Wish on my worst enemies. Nothing lethal but not fun at all.

be lucky you get shingles and not bells palsy from the old chicken pox/measles.

Dude i worked with went home from work, woke up next morning and the left side of his face froze. His wife would tape his left eye close so he could sleep. His mouth was half froze, half working. All happened over night.

Had it on the back of my scalp, neck, and right shoulder. Felt like road rash. Pretty much avoided any contact with the affected parts of my skin.

I had shingles in my optic nerve. For about a month before they showed, I had a constant headache. I thought it was toothache, then hangover, or maybe I needed glasses. Literally a month went by with me slowly trying to diagnose myself (I was 24 so no hurry to go to the dr).

I was only married for a month and we were attending my wife's cousin's wedding in Canada when all hell broke loose. It got so bad that I finally told her that I think I have a brain tumor. Of course she freaked. I got so sick that I spent all night in the hotel room while the reception went on at the same hotel. The next morning we boarded a plane back home. I went to the doctor the day after that in pain and seeing my face (eye) swell and look like an explosion of pain.

3 days later I ended up in the emergency room and finally got some stronger drugs than the ultram the first doctor gave me. I spent a little over a week in basically a shingles induced coma with the pain putting me out. Fast forward 21 years and that eye has reduced eyesite and an astigmatism and when it gets cold, I can still feel the welps. And when I'm tired or stressed, that eye will get 'angry'.

If I ever get them again, I'm gonna use my own prescription signed by dr glock.

Started Valtrex within 24 hours of first symptoms so we will see how this goes.

Eta: I have a freakishly high pain tolerance and I hate docs so enough pain to make me call within 24 hours is not something I want to mess with.

They suck!

first time was a small outbreak on my neck. It didn't hurt unless my shirt collar brushed it. Then it hurt. lasted about a week of that then turned to a scab. I was told once you get them, chances are you won't get them again.

Hooray, I won the lottery and got them again above my eye and up my scalp. I actually thought it was poison ivy outbreak. No pain but an ugly outbreak that again scabbed over and I still have scars on my forehead from that one.

I hope it;s over with. I'll admit, I didn't go through crazy pain but it was a severe annoyance.

....had it right in the middle of my right butt of all places. Developed a skin blister that hurt like heck. Went to the doctor right away. Put me on medication. Couldn't even stand to have a bedsheet lay on the thing. Imagine me laying on my stomach with my buttocks exposed. Laid up for two weeks.

Thought about getting the Shingles vaccine but I had such a terrible experience with the thing I'm afraid it might trigger another attack. No way I want to go through that again. I now have a permenant pimple like scar on might right butt to remind me of the agony.

As bad as I had it doesn't compare to my Dad's case. Came in the form of an ugly rash on the right side of his face, completely circled and in his right eye. He was in his late eighties when he came down with it. Poor Dad. That poor man suffered terrible. But luckily it went away with no residual effect.

Shingles is bad.

Subdermal shingles. I had it on just the left side of my midsection. was a perfect line down my chest to my navel.

Also caused me to have bells palsy

My mom had them really bad during her pregnancy with me. Her entire back was covered and still has a lot of scaring still today.

She said it was like her skin was burning. The doctor's said the pregnancy caused the nerves to activate the dormant shingles.

That shingles vaccine is an evil bitch. I was sick for 3-4 days both times I got it.
However, shingles usually lasts for a long time, can cause blindness, and can cause permanent nerve damage. My mom had a terrible case of the shingles, so I opted for taking the vaccine.

Oh it is numbness, tingling, pain, and itching. Feels like sunburn or insect stings in a straight line. It is definitely not muscular.
