I think that's part of my MIL's hangup. She always has to kind of compete with her daughter's inlaws(the ones that live right by her daughter). They don't even try to work around people's schedules. They just say when it is...and everyone has to work around it...including my MIL when scheduling her holiday get togethers. That's why I would rather her not worry about my work schedule. I appreciate her trying...but she already stresses over when her daughter can be there...just work around that and I will try my best to be there if work allows.

Two families at one holiday gathering? Oh hell no.

Growing up, any time my moms sisters and my dads brothers were in the same room, it was like wrestle mania. Way too many egos.

No...I meant my MIL planning her own family get together. She always has to plan it around when her daughter can be there. Basically she has to ask her daughter when she will be at her inlaws and plan around it...and you can tell she is really resenting that.

Do yourself a favor and work in surgery! One of the many reasons I left ICU!

33 years of shift work and never had a bad word about missed holidays and other events from family (outlaws) or in-laws.

Luckily all of mine don't do that to me. They do ask me why I'm so quiet though. If I'm coming off 4 nights, I'm usually a zombie that day after.

Mine saw me working regular hours for 15 years and making all the holidays, yet getting shitty pay and benefits while having to beg every couple of years for a couple dollars' raise. That part is now gone, so they see the payoff. Also, double time and a half on holidays.

I get it all the time from my side of the family. I don't think they understand my work/school schedule at all. My mom volunteered our house for Easter this weekend. Hello?!?! I work Sunday nights AND I'm in care plan hell all weekend after clinicals on Saturday. I'm pretty sure my family thinks I do nothing, that my paycheck comes from a tree in our backyard.
