About a month ago, the wife, daughter and I go to IKEA to get some supplies. My daughter is 1 y/o and we walk upstairs to find a complete moron wandering around with his wife and a pit bull "service dog". It was utterly ridiculous to see and literally every other person, especially those with children were walking around to get away from this couple and their "service dog".

I am no fan of pits in all honesty but understand they are very harshly criticized. That said a pit is not a service dog and has no place being trotted around in a store full of families especially those with young children.

What the hell is wrong with some people?

Not defending pits, but how did you know it wasn't a service dog?

The owners of the "service dog" are probably low functioning. The traditional way of saying this would be to use the word "retarded."

If the serice dog "industry" (or whatever the hell it is) allows pits to be service-dog certified, it needs to be shut the frick down immediately.

My BIL paid for service dog papers because it was cheaper to get it "certified" as a service dog than it was to pay for it to fly with him. As a father of two T1D daughters, who actually could use a service dog, it disgusts me to see how much bull shite there is out there with this fad.

Take your dog to the lake and let them run around. Don't try to get society to give a shite as much about your dog as you do. It will never happen.

You can't pay for "service dog" papers, a registered service dog goes through months of training - now "companion" dogs are a whole different story.

I would have followed and waited for someone with a service cat to come by.
Now that interaction would have been the worth the trip to ikea

These, or emotional support dogs, are a problem. I get calls all the time at work of people wanting to bring ES dogs in and get upset when I tell them no. They think because they bought a small badge it is all good. I have to explain ADA and how their dog has never been trained to do anything such as "cover" or "block". They don't want to hear that they have been scammed.

This whole "service dog" thing has gotten out of hand completely. For $90 you can go get a lettef from some shady psychologist (they have ads and writing these letters is a big business for them). Then you buy a service dog kit from Amazon cor another $50, and voila, you can take your dog anywhere with a letter that generically gives you the right to do so.

Total bullshite, and it takes away crom Vets who need dogs cor PTSD and other legit reasons.

The first 2 Pit Bulls I ever met were temperamental and only nice to their owners and scary. I couldn't understand how someone would want these dogs as a pet.

The next 2 I met were the nicest and most obedient, loyal family dogs I have ever seen. I began to see how certain people gravitate to this breed.

50% is not a good batting average for dog aggression but I can see how they are polarizing animals depending on your experience.

Yes, but no one knows they difference between service and companion dogs. A "therapy" or "anxiety" dog has no right to be in a restaurant, grocery store or anywhere else in public, save for an airplane. But people are too dumb/afraid to call them out.

Pits are not a breed used as service dogs. It may have been, but it was very disrespectful to every singe other person in that store to bring that dog there.

There is no standard industry and certification. If you can get a psychologist to writer you a letter saying you need a dog, you can use any dog you want.

Psychologists are writing these recommendations for stupid shite like social anxiety nowadays.

Not sure about your graph; huskies are known to be the complete opposite of aggressive dogs. Were they attacking cats? Because that's the one animal they can't be around.

Where do you work that ES aren't allowed? The bar for proof on a service animal is extremely low.

Restaurant.

quote:

The law that allows a trained service dog to accompany a person with a disability is the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). An emotional support animal is an animal (typically a dog or cat though this can include other species) that provides a therapeutic benefit to its owner through companionship.

ES is not covered under ADA which may leave us open to liability
