My great-great-grandfather, James Harrison Young, a private in the 3rd Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters, was captured at the skirmish at High Bridge, three days before Robert E. Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Courthouse. He was a POW being held in the vicinity at the time of the surrender. I don't know whether my ancestor actually ever saw the General, but given the circumstances, I think it was likely. Some folks can't understand the connection that educated people like me have to the Confederacy. I'm not a white supremacist looney. I simply refuse to dismiss the sacrifice of my ancestors, regardless of the rightness of their cause.

It's funny that you can say all this out loud, but then you probably turn around and say something like "OMG, why can't black people just let slavery go, that was like forever ago."

I still don't understand. Your connection is that your great-great-grandfather was once in the vicinity of General Lee?

Yeah my 3rd great grandfather was a captain in the 8th Mississippi Infantry. I'm damn proud of that and the monument situation is pretty upsetting to me.

frick off. This analogy is flawed and ignorant.

I have never once demanded or asked anyone to forget about Slavery. I have also never asked for reperations from Northerners or demanded special treatment because of the Civil War. I have never blamed all of the problems in my life on the Civil War. I
