Depending on the house and the neighborhood, vinyl siding can look good.

A few years ago my parents covered the wood exterior on their house with vinyl siding and it looks much better than it used to. It is a pretty small house though, and I have seen several instances where vinyl siding has looked pretty bad.

It depends on thickness and type of vinyl siding along with how good the installer is. .038, .040, and .042 is cheaper and typically looks like crap. .044 and .046 is thicker and if done right will look like wood siding on a house. Like everything else the better it is the more it cost and the more options out there to replace it.

I just bought a house in palm beach gardens that has some in the second floor. Kind of a farmhouse style on lots that are 1-3 acres (horses allowed). I'll probably stucco the upstairs to match the downstairs in a few years but I'm surprised at how well the siding has held up considering it's apparently over 39 years old

If you've ever replaced anything under vinyl, you'd realize it's not an amazing product. Hardie siding on the other hand? That's an amazing product. I wouldn't put vinyl on a doghouse.

Vinyl had its place. Like the skirt under your fricking trailer you trash balls.

Hardi is overpriced dogshit. Still Have to paint it

How is it overpriced, and how is it dogshit? It's fire resistant, doesn't rot, doesn't attract termites, doesn't crack when nicked with something as simple as a weed-eater, is paintable, comes pre-primed, comes with a 50 year warranty. There are many more I could come up with, but your statement proves you're full of shite.

Fiber cement siding is a good product.
Many mfg’s now make it from Hardie, certainteed, Nichiha, and a few others. Some are thin and some are thicker. I seen prepainted hardie that looks nasty which that job was done by an installer that did a poor job. I seen some that look great. A lot of it comes down to how good the installer is.

My house is prob 10-15% vinyl rest brick.
Under carport and back patio with brick walls and columns mixed in.

I keep it washed and it looks great.
You people are stupid.

For sure, but the same can be said about almost any cladding. It definitely is a more labor intensive install, but once complete, it's well worth it. I do prefer Hardie products over the rest, but I might just be biased. Anyway, fiber cement is definitely my go to. The pros definitely outweigh any other product out there sans brick cladding, and even then, the downside of that is labor intensive removal when doing wall penetrations.

You can't imagine a world where you had to mow your grass but lament the fall of vinyl siding?

Damn son, mow your own grass and you might be able to afford a home built in this century.
