Finally. I've been writing the city & police departmentfor months about setting one of these up.

It's because of the seatbelt grant money.

That group of officers is getting overtime off that grant.

Those aren't just on duty officers wasting time

They are checking for seatbelts. It's definitely not

Revenue generator. Would you rather pay more taxes or just follow the law?

I don't worry about seatbelt checkpoints because I wear my seatbelt whether I agree with the law or not.

Maanwhile, my power is still out in that very neighborhood. Talk about beating up people while they are down.

But no one forces you to make that decision. I wear it to, but if some asshat doesn't want to, I won't force him to. It doesn't endanger me.

The law forces me to make that decision. I don't want the burden that comes along with not following laws so I just do it.

You should go to Baltimore and protest your beliefs.

DING DING DING.

I make sure everyone in my car buckles up before I drive. If Joe Blow doesn't want to do that in their vehicle, it's their life why should I care?

Let's say you rear end Joe Blow and he's not buckled in. His injuries might be more severe than if he had worn his seatbelt. Insurance pays out more. Courts get clogged up. yadda yadda yadda. Not to even mention Joe Blow becoming a projectile in a major accident.

ETA: Not defending the checkpoints. I think those are BS. Just defending seatbelt law reasoning.

That's actually a decent argument. I'm pretty sure that in that situation, Joe Blow is at partial fault because he wasn't following the law, but if you take the law away that might not be the case aka what you said.

Interesting.

I've seen a shite ton of inspection and seatbelt checkpoints by the sheriffs lately. They decided to post up in the middle of bluebonnet on sunday, assholes.

Maybe they could combine directing traffic and checking seatbelts since many streets still don't have working stop lights. College Drive was a joke last night with a stop light out.
