The geyser is never late, it's the prediction that's early.

First they say this...
Then they say this...
5-10% is "likely"? And that's not even for Yellowstone, that's "one of the major volcanoes", so they are including the chances of any other "major volcano" erupting as well.
What a moron who wrote that article.
And even if you get beyond the 5-10% being "likely" thing, even if they said it was 70% likely that Yellowstone itself would erupt, I seriously doubt that a super volcano that erupts on a cycle of ~650,000-700,000 years can be accurately predicted to within 80 years by today's scientists. They'd be lucky to get within 80,000 years, much less 80.

they conclude is likely to go off within the next 80 years.
Then they say this...

The chance of such as eruption happening at one of the major volcanoes within 80 years is put at five to ten per cent by the experts.

That's a tabloid site mom jeans. Start a thread when a serious news outlet is reporting on this

It can't be. This is a click bait article on a tabloid site. Not sure why it was posted here

Well it would take care of Global Warming.

Next ice age follows. Maybe mini ice age.
that sure as hell would make all the work to control the climate a total waste!!

I was just there, the bison didn't seem concerned

Nice source, OP
I do wonder whether we can develop the technology to avert such a disaster or at least mitigate it

If you don't like the thread you've got two choices.
1. Move along to another thread.
2. Stay in the thread bitching and acting like a blowhard dick.
Don't be a dick.

I've heard this every 2-3 years for over 20 years.
Just like the biannual "all the bees are dying" stories.

I was at the Yellowstone visitor/learning center a couple of years back and overheard a mother explaining to her children how global warming will cause the volcanos under the park to blow, and likely blow very soon.

Scientists worry too much IMHO

It's not "bitching" to come into this thread to make the observation that it's from a website that also has an article proclaiming 500 eye witnesses that aliens did indeed crash at Roswell in the 50's.

Fracking is likely to blame.
Probably not, but fracking enhances the possibility of a cataclysmic volcanic eruption.

I'm surprised the government and scientists haven't figured out some sort of shake down racket over this. Volcano offset credits or some crap.

Yellowstone comes up in every geology thread. You don't need a news article to confirm what's going on. Scientist have discovered that the ground in Yellowstone is 74cm higher than in was in 1923 - indicating a massive swelling underneath the park. The reservoir is filling with magma at an alarming rate. The volcano erupts with a near-clockwork cycle of every 600,000 years. The last eruption was more than 640,000 years ago - we are overdue for annihilation.
