Do they think this could apply to adults with brain damage? More specifically, an adult brain that suffered trauma many years back. Had a cousin that was in a bad wreck and suffered some serious brain damage. I was always hoping something would come around to give him more of a future.
The answer to this is (unfortunately) most likely, No. The article states that they arent entirely sure what happened in this case in the first place but they attribute most of it to her being very young and still well in her cognitive development.
The fact that she was in a damn near freezing body of water helps too.

This isn't really new actually. I read about this at least a few years ago.
Touro in New Orleans is one of the leaders in the country in this area of treatment.

HBOT is proven to be helpful with brain injuries and cognitive disorders. The problem is that it's not indicated for those problems, therefore only those with wealth can seek out this treatment and pay for it in cash. It's still off label but I've heard of HBOT being effectively used for treatment of Autism and other disorders on the spectrum.
And while I believe in these treatments, I agree with those who have already stated that the biggest factor here was the temperature of that water.

Some psychologist has included using hyperbaric oxygen therapy for years, if not decades, for brain trauma. I cannot think of the guys name for the life of me though.
A lot of the field calls him a quack though.

What's the big deal with the water temperature? Excuse my ignorance

This is incredible.
I hope there's more funding and more studies, perhaps a pilot study before randomized control trials

I assume the cold temperature "preserved" her to some extent by slowing the biochemical reactions.

15 minutes doesn't seem long enough for that to make a difference, but I have no idea what I'm talking about
