Japan kicked Russia’s arse, but the peace treaty negotiated largely by Teddy Roosevelt didn’t provide Japan much in terms of the spoils of war.

That led to widespread discontent in Japan, and that discontent permeated Japanese culture for the next couple of generations that led into WWII.

My Great Grandfather fought in this war. Survived but died of a kidney infection during WW1.
Really under talked about War that was somewhat, in some ways, a precursor to WW1 and WW2 bc of the outcome

Isn’t this the first war where they used essentially proto-tanks?

Also some discontent in Russia because of the arse kicking, which didn’t help with the anti-czarist sentiment. 12 years later, no more czar.

The Russians steamed halfway around the world to have their fleet scuttled.

Japan kicked Russia's arse so bad the USSR was still afraid of Japan in 1941. Once they found out Japan had no plans to invade they poured all their troops into the eastern front.

Tshushima was one of the most lopsided battles in the history of naval warfare.

The humiliation of the Russian navy's defeat by Japan was so widespread that it led to the Russian Revolution of 1905.

Although the Tsar and the monarchy survived the Revolution of 1905, it resulted in the Tsar being pressured to establish the State Duma (a kind of parliament), a multi-party political system, and the creation of the Russian Constitution of 1906.

Lenin said of the 1905 revolution, "The Revolution of 1905 was 'The Great Dress Rehearsal', without which the 'victory of the October Revolution in 1917 would have been impossible.'"

Yes really. They would fight to the death and would not surrender. Samurai mentality was more hardass than anything to come out of western culture

That's odd. I've always heard the Seven Years War, aka The French and Indian War was World War 0.

was a myth, and very similar to the Nazi philosophy of “you will fight to the death one way or the other “

The arse-kicking coupled with that trans-Siberian rail did them in for good.
