Ukraine had to tell Biden to calm down a couple of times in January. The WH was trying hard to scare people about this.

Not saying you are right, but it would explain the media and White House’s behavior lately.
ETA - POTUS’s approval rating is extremely low even in blue states, so it wouldn’t shock me if they were trying to build this up so it could eventually be touted as a diplomatic achievement.
Wouldn’t surprise me either way to be honest.

Not exactly. But what the US did do was keep attention focused on Russia daily, systematically removing Putin’s options. Putin would have been the obvious aggressor. It got to the point that there was no scenario in which Putin could have justified any action at all.
