What is the difference in calories burned?
Does the meauxjeaux2 theory of speed efficiency apply?

Only slightly more calories burned when you run or jog, still roughly 100kcal/mile

Well you finish earlier to drink beer by running

This is all that matters.
Of course how fat you are, how fast you jog, your normal metobolic rate, etc all goes into the answer.

If your run you can guzzle that gallon of cheeze-dip faster, so obviously running is more beneficial. Just my 2 cents.

Running leaves more time to burn extra calories by existing. Therefore in a 24 hour period, you would have burned more calories if you ran 5 miles vs walked 5 miles.

Running burns a lot more cals vs walking.
Better off running 50-60 yard sprints if you are physically able to. Sprinting will continue to burn calories long after the workout is finished.

I can't give you a specific number.
At the very basic info I would have to at least know your pace per mile to give a rough estimate.
Factor in your weight, HR, age, sex, etc if you want to tailor it to you

The OP should expand this to include cycling...

I used to run religiously, but my bone spurs eventually forced me to switch to cycling.

Comparison of a Five Mile Run to Biking
Over the same distance, running requires more work, uses more energy and burns more calories than cycling. Running and cycling at approximately the same level of intensity for the same period of time, however, may help you to burn about the same amount of calories. As each exercise targets different muscles, you may wish to include both in your training.

Impact and Intensity
Cycling involves fluid, circular leg motions, and is relatively low-impact. Running places a great deal of stress on the joints of your lower body and your spine. Whether or not you run on soft surfaces and use supportive shoes, the joints of your lower body absorb most of the impact of the ground.

Speed walking would burn more calories than both.

Walk 5 miles at a 15% incline and now we're getting somewhere
