I came up with some more questions: how hard will it be to put on a polo shirt or am I stuck with button down shirts?

Putting on pants may not be all that easy either.

Will I sleep in the sling (something tells me I will)?

Going to the bathroom sounds like a chore also especially the sit down variety.

Thanks for the answers so far

Button down shirts, sweat pants for the first few days, the rest you will figure out. I've had both of mine done. The one thing I would stress is, do not rush recovery. Your movement will be very limited and trust me you will know when you exceed that limit. Good luck.

Figured as much...kind of like my ACL surgery; the doc said if it hurts don't do it . No way I want to "un-do" what the doc fixes so I won't be pushing it.

I hate button down shirts & I can't get away with sweats at work but like you said I'll figure it out.

my surgury was pretty evasive. Doc said he would try to fix it with scope only, but once he went in it was torn up pretty bad, and he had to make a 4-5" incision. i was in a sling for 3-4 weeks and then went through therapy for another 6. you will be eating pain pills like candy come monday...

Invasive...Exact same thing happened to me.
Just do your rehab EXACTLY as prescribed by your physical therapist-it's easy to re-tear it or set your rehab back weeks if you screw around.
And get used to sleeping flat on your back for a few weeks too.

It took me about 6 months to get back to full strength with a dedicated rehab and strength program.

Good luck-better to get it done that live through not being able to put your shirt on properly...

I had it done last September. rotator cuff had been torn for years and slowly started being more of an issue. I do a lot of kayaking and it was starting to hold me back a bit.

I had rotator cuff repair, bursa sac removed, decompression surgery and calcific tendenitous clean out.

I had to start PT 3 days after surgery to try to regain mobility. depsite going every day for 9 weeks, I couldnt raise my hand above my shoulder. Had a second surgery on December 11th and went home to a Continious Passive Motion chair (you tube it) that the PT shop had delivered and set up at my house. spent 8 hours a day in that chair and also attended PT for 1.5 hours every day during the week from December 12th to January 1st. Thank God for Netflix!!!

all in all, it is not bad

it's a tough recovery and I can't tell you how difficult sleeping is. I was on heavy duty pain medicine due to therapist trying to break through the scar tissue for 10 weeks. I was literally bruised from them pulling on it. they decided that if they pulled any harder, it could break my collar bone.

I had the Capsular Release surgery on December the 11th and the next day I could raise my arm almost straight up.

I just got the all clear from the doctor last Thursday. I still don't know if it helped solve the issues I was having. will find out in a fe months I guesss

You will neen to get some button down loose fitting short sleve shirts. Getting into a polo isn't likely.

sleeping is the main issue. sitting propped up in bed or in a recliner is the best option.

A friend was a few weeks ahead of me and he called me and told me DO NOT DO THIS unless you ahve no other option. He seemed to have more pain than I did. He didnt start PT until 6 weeks after surgery where I had to start three days later.

I bough a $15 pulley system from Amazon to help with recovery and range of motion on top of all my PT.

To be honest, all of my mobility issues came from the Calcific Tendenitous repair so you should't encounter that issue.

edit- sling only comes off to shower
