This isn't a bad idea. I downloaded the set a while back and have been meaning to start on the French. I have a bit more on my plate now so I don't know if I can dedicate the time I need, but it's definitely something I need to get around to

I honestly tried Rosetta Stone before I learned Spanish (got them free from a friend). I didn't find it helpful, especially when I tried the Arabic and Chinese versions. I learned Spanish better just by going to Mexican restaurants and forcing myself to speak with my Mexican servers. I encourage you guys to checkout Live Mocha, which is more or less the same concept as Rosetta Stone and it's mostly free, with actual native speakers helping you out.

Duo Lingo is another free website that is good and I'm doing it for German right now.

Or you can sign up for a pen pal on MyLanguageExchange.

Does it come with the key or do you have to get that seperately? And if so, where do you get them?

I don't want to spend the money on Rosetta Stone, but I used to know quite a bit of Spanish and I pick it up quickly when exposed to it. I'd be willing to trade email addy's with some of the Spanish learners and see if we can all help each other out.

I have German and am down to join, but I'm skeptical how much it actually works.

I did a few lessons of French and it just seemed like it wasn't very well put together.

Has anyone in this thread actually completed a language?

I did for Italian. I don't think Rosetta Stone is very effective.

I know fellow soldiers in the Army when I was at DLI and they said it was hard as shite... I can't imagine a computer software would replace a true immersion experience.

That said, I would agree that it is the best ALTERNATIVE way to learn a language without spending time in country.

Good luck.

Exactly. This entire world is about to have Ebola. Not like you're gonna be able to travel.

I have the Duo Lingo app on my phone. I was plowing through French and just forgot about it. I liked how it was structured though.

I'm in. I don't have Rosetta stone but I have another strategy I'm using to learn Spanish. I was doing good for a couple of weeks but have also slacked off, I need to be held accountable. Considering my family is Cuban so I should know it by now I really want to do this

ETA: I think we should all be required to write at least one post a day in this thread in the language we are trying to learn.

I'm already bilingual (my father is from South America), and I'm almost fluent on Italian, I guess.
